How do you use it with the pop-up flash, where is it in the menu?

shoot in Av mode and it will act as fill. (is it the same for tv mode? im not sure...)

werid that what I was doing, just didnt seem to work too well.

The flash must be "popped up" in order to be used as fill. Push the button near the flash with the little lightning bolt.

While u are in Av mode, u should lower the flash compensation. Use the * button to lock the flash explosure first, and then shoot.

Could you explain what you mean by this? Meter the shot, hit the * then shoot? What does this do? I often find my xti flash shots to be a bit over done.

best thing to do, adjust the flash level in the first menu of your camera, set it to -2ev and you are set

Perhaps what happened was that you tried to shoot in Av mode with an f/stop that required a shutter speed above 1/250, meaning that it badly overexposed the shot, because the flash can't sync at speeds faster than that.

that's the most likely explanation.

The easiest way to use flash, fill or otherwise, on an Eos Camera is in P mode. It truly does become plug'n play then. worry about fancy stuff when you have a better handle on it. but for pop-up fill flash, this works best. anything more serious, you need a speedlite anyways.
