I have noticed that I cannot use automatic focusing with my wide angle lens on my G2 but have to use manual focus. comments or tips from anyone or is this the way it has to be?

I have a Canon wide angle lens and it works with the auto-focus. Is the lens a Canon lens?

Wide angle lenses will usually block some or all of the focus assist lamp, built-in flash and viewfinder. Thus if the lighting is dim, you will get no focussing assitance lamp. Perhaps this is your problem? Look for very contrasty items in the desired focal plane and place them in the desired focusing square. For brighter lighting conditions there should be no issue. When any accessory lens is added the LCD should be used for framing the shot.
