I want to incoorperate more getting ready shots and detail shots to my portfolio... what do you think of this and do you like it better in black and white or color? Thanks,

it's weird... the colors look WAY different now that they are sized for the web and posted hear. It's a lot warmer of a photo in reality.

I am a sucker for b/w images. Go for that one. The WB looks a bit off in the colour one!

Yeah black and white for me too

The color looks too warm for me ...... the original must be on fire if its warmer still !!!

Like the B&W, if only to hide that color !

thanks for all the comments... Paul - is that why you like the b&w?

The WB is off in the color version and it needs to be sharpened just a tad. Doing this will greatly improve the contrast in a B&W conversion.

I guess I'm old fashion, but I think bw suits the get ready shots, as it's a more journalistic feel over them, and often bw is not so distracting. In this above photo, the person in the background becomes more distracting in the color version than in the bw version, for instance.

Wow, the edit looks fantastic. I like the color in the edit a lot, but I would chose the edited b&w version for portfolio deisplay.

I completely agree. I usually will put almost all the getting ready pics in BW. So, I'd go w/the BW. ;)

I like all the shots on your page. The B/W especially- they seem to have more punch. The one in the bottom left hand corner is a cracker!
The colour balance could do with tweeking a bit on the colour ones.

I agree about the color and I"m not sure why - it doesn't seem very vibrant... I played with the color balance a little but it still doesn't pop as much as i'd like, any suggestions?

If you shot these shots in RAW you can try correcting the Wb and then bumping the saturation to 1 or 2 in DPP

Thats what I was going to say and in the b/w one id consider fading the person in the back into the background more.

When doing black and white conversions I find you get better contrast by converting to CYMK then desaturating, after that I reset the mode to RBG and play around with the channels some.

I would say b&w and maybe edit the person out of the background, but its not a necessery thing.

it's your color management. i'm guessing you are using Adobe RGB (a color space normally more warmer [red]) for the original.. convert the profile for any images going to web.. this way colors will be more similar

thanks... convert to what?

i can't remember, but the sRGB color space is more accurate for browsers, i think they actually use that. your colors will shift a bit but normally it will shift a lot less than leaving it in adobe rgb and viewing it in a browser
