What is the best thing in your camera bag that you paid under $10.00 for ?

And you cant say lens cleaning cloth !

Just a little something you brought one day, have carried around and then one day BANG - by having it in your camera bag it saved the day !

I will start the ball rolling with 2 items.

#1 - is a hotshoe spirt level

#2- A set of 8 mini clamps - I use them ALL the time to hold backgorunds still and to take out the wrinkles.

Another tip this these is carry lots of rubber bands (Elastic bands) you can thread them thru the hole in the handle and then link them together to tie off the clamps somewhere.

because its too easy and the idea is to come up with new items to carry and afterall - EVERYONE should have a cleaning cloth in there bags right........ I mean, you would have to be a dumb as a box of rocks to carry a camera, lens and NO cleaning cloth around.

I'm dumb as a box of rocks then. I leave my cloth at home. After all, how good of a cleaning job could I possibly do out on the go? I figure a rocket blower does fine.

In the words of Lightning McQueen....Ka-Chow!

I guess if it's under $10, I think the little simulated leather CF card holder I got at WalMart a year ago is the best little thing. It fits 6 CF cards and zips. I saw Jon had one and I found one, haven't seen one for sale since. Besides being small, it actually never gets lost. :)

I bought a little mini flashlight when I first bought my camera so I could read the manual in the dark if I couldn't remember how to do something and it has come in SO handy! I don't have to use it for the manual anymore, but it has saved a couple of lens caps that I have dropped outside in the dark!

I don't really keep it in the bag but the gaffer tape comes in handy. My secondhand 10D came with a broken eyepiece. I lost it 2x on 2 different days at the same event. Some gaffer tape wrapped around the inside where the little clip used to be snugged it up when I slid it back on the viewfinder. Hasn't come off since, and I didn't have to buy a new one.

My little Gepe watertight CF case, I think. One time I flipped open my bag by accident, and everything went flying out. In a panic, I caught the camera, but 8 gigs of Ultra II's went right in the water. I didn't even notice. I went back later, and there was the case...floating. I picked it up, wiped it off, opened it up, and everything was nice and dry. That was back when a 2gig was about $250, too. $1000 worth of CF's...almost gone.

The case costs about 8 bucks on B&H.

They charged me 18.95 for mine. Are you sure it is the Gepe? I must be looking in the wrong place.

I guess that my Hakuba lens pen was only 9.95 from B&H. Although I do not use the pen, just the brush. I do not trust the pen.

For what it's worth, Doc, CDS uses a Hakuba pen on his big whites all the time, and ne'er a problem.

Oh, and Doc, I was thinking about my Extreme safe combi as well, and yes, it's the same price, but I do have a watertight one from them called the safe basic duo, and that was 8.xx.

Silicone gun cloth....only a couple bucks...I've used them on my bodies and lens barrels for years...keeps things dust free and new looking. Non slippery...adds some water protection too...things just bead up and run off.

Really. I love the brush, but just am worried about the other end having stuff on it from a previous cleaning.

Just getting wet doesn't damage CF cards, according to some of the tests I have seen - in one UK magazine, Pratical Photography, they literally 'Extreme'd' a Sandisk to death, and in the end it had survived far more abuse than any reasonable person could give it, including being run over. It was salt water that finally finished it off.

Having said that I would hate to drop mine into water - so the card saffe seems a good idea!

The only thing sub-US$10 in my bag is my ADIDT remote release. £5 doesn't get much in the UK, even my hot shoe spirit level cost £10

I love all the stuff that's under $10 in my bag.

1) Pen
2) 3x2 inch note pad [for recording EXIF during film putings]
3) Bag of Cream Savers [Good for giving to little kids to get them to smile, or for myself when I'm hungry or craving something sweet]

Actually just having $10 itself in your camera bag is a good idea. I have a small cash stash in mine, in case of emergencies.

I don't like sitting on a wallet. If I do carry one, it's in my inside coat pocket. Usually I don't carry a wallet, rather the leather flip open "thingy" that came with it. One side holds the license, the other holds the cards. Very thin, and wouldn't notice it, really. I do think it's annoying to go through a wallet to get money, though. If I keep my money in anything, it's one of my money clips.

I carry money, etc... in a fanny pack. I hate anything in my pockets.

Oh, I guess I have 5 - 4 GB cards and 2 of the Gepe Watertight cases. One marked full the other one marked empty. I transfer the full cards to the new case as they fill up. Always one in the camera.

Same here, in a wallet. However where I to loose that wallet, or discover that the pie and ice cream shop I've found during a hot day of taking photos is cash only and (as usual) I forgot to visit an ATM I'd be covered. You'd be looking longingly in through the window. :)

I was just trying to say I like to have cash in more than one place. So if I lost my wallet, or discovered my wife had borrowed all my money, I've still got $20 stuck in the bottom of my camera bag. I'd get my pie, even if I was sad because I'd lost my wallet or my wife was spending my new lens fund.
