Not sure if this goes here or not, but different EOS cameras were the origin of my question, so I'll make it fit.

I recently purchased a Canon 30D to go along with (for now) my Digital Rebel XT. With each camera, there is the capture software included in the package. I have been using the ZoomBrowserEX with my XT. There is a new software version (5.6 vs. 5.1) in the 30D package.

First, will the software for each work interchangably?
Second, will there be a way to distinguish between picture files other than reviewing the exif data?

Thanks in advance. I've been traveling for work and haven't been able to really dive into the 30D yet. I have whipped out about 10 photos in 2 weeks. *sigh*

No. The software for your rebel will not support your 30D, however, the 30D software should be backwards compatible with your rebel.

Unless you provide a different install location, the new software should overwrite the old software (or tell you to remove it before installation).

The best way to distinguish between files is to use a card reader and transfer your files into folders set up for each body before processing. I separate my files from a G3, 10D and 30D in this way. Once I start processing my daughters digital pics, I will have a folder for the SD800 IS also.

Thanks for the response! I am trying to figure out how I am going to make this work with my computer situation.

It sounds like if I upgrade my sw fo rthe 30D, I'll be alright. If not, I have all those discs around here . . . somewhere.

If you've already installed one set of Canon software, I suggest that rather than install the other CD over it, you download the latest updater from Canon's website and install that. Since it's designed to update an exisiting install, it's cleaner than running a "new" install over the old one.
