My wife has just ordered for me a TS-E 24mm for xmas. It will arrive here from Warehouse Express on Tuesday. I'm going through its use in my mind. I think I have perfected all of its uses before I have laid my hands on it. The most interesting concept (second to control of divergence/convergence) is as follows: shift 11mm left and right to get an effective sensor size of 58mm by 24mm, or in portrait mode of 46mm by 36mm. Also shift with the lens at 30 and 60 degrees to get a huge circular image.
What are you getting for Xmas?

I got mine early - a 580EX
That will be it for a few months at least, but the next purchase will probably be a 100mm macro lens.
This year we are having a 'kids only' christmas, with an agreement among the adults in the family that we will exchange good will and fellowship, not gifts.
From work, we are contributing to a charity that buys sustainable productive gifts for people in the third world. we have collected enough to buy a goat and hive of bees and what is left over goes towards buying a cow. Every year we choose a charity, and do this instead of buying gifts and sending cards to co-workers.

I bought myself a 1DMkIIN for xmas. 8) I won't be "getting" any photo gear for xmas from family or anything, because everything I want is far too expensive. I'm getting a PSP with a few games and a 1gig card. Fair enough.

New PC with Core 2 Duo 6600, Geforce 8800GTX etc, good food, company, movies and vacation.
No camera stuff this year, I'll wait for Mark II replacement (I am very tempted to get 5D but I know I will long for some 1D features).

Niiiiice PC! The rest of your Christmas season sounds idyllic, too.
I, too, am waiting to see what Canon do with the Mark II replacement but, in the meantime, I am very happy with the 5D.
For Christmas gifts, my wife and I agreed on a new computerised overlocker for her and a replacement 24-70 for me. She has already received the overlocker - but my 24-70 won't be coming anytime soon. With a change in our work habits, we found we needed another vehicle and that need was more important than another lens - so I bought an old 4WD for work use - and it has the additional benefit of being able to take me to some pretty out-of-the-way spots for photography.

that's it.. If Pekka is tempted by the 5D that's good enough for me... too bad life costs soo much. I'll have to wait for spring for a new camera... :( :(

I think my mother is going to get me a Kohl's gift certificate. Other than that I probably won't get anything. No gear this Xmas. :(

Cool ... Christmas is often way too too selfish. Hell, Jesus couldn't even get a room at the Holiday Inn (or something!) and some folks are flying out for a luxury break to Barcelona ... oooops, that's me :o :o
But each year I don't buy anyone anything, I send cards and give a very decent donation either to Oxfam or to Crisis at Christmas. Knowing some financially poor African family could get a helping hand or some homeless kid could have a few nights of comfort and some hot food, etc is much more satisfying.

I have enough camera gear now, just bought a 70-200 F/4 L IS.
But I bought myself a Fortis watch for xmas. Quite pleased with that.

My daughter is expressing a lot of interest in photography, so much i'm thinking of either buying or giving her my 350D and 28-105II. She has been using it the last month or 2 with no signs of boredom creeping in.
This means I will likely need a new camera (things work out well) So if anyone has a 20/30D UK going for a song i'm all ears. I would have liked the 5D but my gravy boat is not deep enough to float the costs right now.
So short story, maybe a 20/30D :D

Exactly my strategy:) I gave one of my two dRebel XTs and the 28-105 Mark II to my daughter in Chicago in November and upgraded to a 30D :)

For Christmas (to me from me) I cashed all my remaining AMEX Rewards points and got a "free" Canon 135MM EF L :)
I have asked Santa for a 77MM CP filter to use with my 10-22 EF-S, 24-70 EF L, and my 17-55 MM EF-S IS:) Mrs. Claus says she will take care of this and to look under the tree on Christmas Day!

One of the few drawbacks in buying whatever you want when you want it.... makes for lousy birthdays and Christmas. But the other days of the year are pretty cool! Wife is same way, if she wants something, she gets it. We aren't rich, but with absolutely no debt, and two decent incomes, and moderate tastes in purchases, except this new hobby, lol, we can live that way. The secret was never having ANY debt except mortgages, and paying those off early every time. Now, instead of paying some bank interest each month, we can pay ourselves because we lived under our means all of our lives. I'd trade it all in for good health, so the grass is not greener on this side of the street!

I got my nephew a plane ticket to come home for Christmas (as much for me as for him!) and made a donation to Heifer Project International. I bought a goat! (http://www.heifer.org/site/apps/ka/ec/product.asp?c=edJRKQNiFiG&b=477887&ProductID=164806)
Other than that, I am going home to Michigan to spend the holidays with my family. I don't expect anything much for Christmas other than a good meal cooked by Mom and some time with my nephew.

Xmas has lost it's appeal to me since my late teens, no big reason just grown out of it i suppose. The only thing i'm look forward to is being with my family and xmas dinner, those will be the best gifts :D

Digital Rebel XTi from the wife ( payback for me buying her an abysinian cat $$$ which also meant driving to st louis to get it and a speeding ticket from a lovely central IL state patrol officer because she wanted me to hurry up because we were running late to meet the cat lady)
a 2.0 gb memory card from my parents.. and maybe a new 10" table saw,
i also had the nifty fifty, grip, extra battery from sterlingtek and "understanding exposure" on the list. not sure what else... i am lucky i guess. have a wife that likes to spend (my) money, and parents that seem to still like to spoil me.. .god knows i don't deserve it though
