Every fall we get these bugs seeking refuge. I have yet to truly identify it. I get probably a half dozen every fall. Can anybody tell me what this is?

It is a little bigger than 1" in length and it flies, but typically it is "too tired" to fly by the time I find them, however, they have dive bombed me before. They are more an annoyance than anything and my wife HATES bugs so I end up having to either kill it or remove it from the premises pronto.

Excuse the detail. I am still waiting to buy a true macro lens and as this was right before dinner, I didn't have time to get the tripod and use my macro filters, my wife would have killed me for taking the time to do that. No editing done, just cropped in PS CS2 and then resized.

Some kind of Plant bug I think, maybe a Flower bug, either way quite harmless.

actually most of these bugs and the Shieldbugs only grow to about 2cm - are you sure about its size?

I agree. A true bug, Hemiptera. They do have piercing mouth parts so personally I would not want to grab one too roughly. But they are just looking for a place to hibernate- they mean no harm as RM says.

Well this thing was about as big as the pad of my thumb which measures almost 1.5" (about 3.5 cm)

It's a darn good size. Oh and they "crunch" when you squish 'em :)
