Look @ Stroboframes website & decide if you're ever going to add a battery pack & go from there.

Stroboframe (http://www.tiffen.com/Header_page_Stroboframe.htm), Custom Brackets (http://www.custombrackets.com), Newton Camera Brackets (http://www.newtoncamerabrackets.com) are the favorite brands of many.

I'd suggest the Stroboframe Pro-T. It's a lightweight, flash flip type of bracket. You'll need the specific antitwist plate as well.
The similar Press-T is smaller and won't put the flash directly over the lens (for vertical shots) if you have the BG-ED3 vertical grip on the camera, so it's not appropriate for the 10D.
The camera rotating brackets are useful but much heavier than the flash flip variety like the Pro-T. I guess that I'd suggest the flash flip if you think that you'll be mostly handholding; and the camera rotating kind, if you are working from a tripod.

Over time I came up with two things I needed to do to my flash
bracket. I drilled two holes in it and I use a locking pin to stop
the darn thing from moving when I don't want it to (like when I'm
walking between shooting or when I'm waiting for the next thing
I need to shoot at a wedding).
The second thing I've found is the off-camera-cord is plastic at the
flash end at the bottom, the part that would slip into a shoe. This
eventually breaks if you use it on a "flip" bracket. I bought an adapter
that is metal that goes into the bottom hole of the shoe cord at the 550
end and fits into the shoe holder on the bracket.
I put a photo here : http://www.xposeu.com/flash.jpg

I recently got a Custom Brackets setup and like it a lot. Twisting of the camera on the bracket is not an issue with this setup because the bracket supports the camera, not the other way around. All the weight of the camera, flash and bracket is supported in the left hand via an integrated handle.
