But which type of photography were you talking about? Advertising, editorial, art, etc? There are still plenty of pros who use medium format. I don't believe all medium format has switched over to digital backs as much as those using 35mm.

Geez, I wonder if all the pros know this. :)
Anyway, I remember my wife telling me that her law school prof told his class to watch shows like LA Law -- not because they reflect reality in any way, but because all their clients will believe that's how lawyers behave, in and out of court.
There certainly is a popular concept of how/what photographers do, amateur and professional. Folks like that need to read Ken Rockwell's Seven Levels of Photographers http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/7.htm

Even better, here is an article from the latest issue of PDN about PJ's on the campaign trail! (http://www.pdnonline.com/photodistrictnews/headlines/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=2085686)

I had a long chat with a model yesterday.
We were talking about film/digital and I asked her how many of the pro's that she shoots with use digital, said said just about all of them do and that its mainly only amateurs who shoot film these days.
Don't forget that you were talking to a model, though.

the model in question works a lot in The UK.
This is mainly glamour/artistic nude work.
and not all models are stupid you know
Seriously off topic.. But nice avatar! Take it for granted you're also in the crowd of enlightened people ;) Check out digikam (digikam.sourceforge.net) if you haven't already. Their new beta (or pull it from CVS) includes Canon *.crw support within the digikamplugins package :) I saw they where requesting raw-files from the 10D the other day, so I sent a few, and back came this screenshot with my "on-screen" tux'es converted to *.png :)

It doesn't support changing the whitebalance, exposure-compensation or other "advanced" stuff yet, but at least now I don't have to boot over to windows just to look through an archieve of *.crw files any more.
Oh, and here they've put the original *.crw I sent of the image.

It's good to see other Linux-users here. Sometimes I'm wondering if I'm the only one running Linux, _AND_ shooting DSLR :-P Some guys I talk to start rolling eyes when they hear I don't use Mac or Windows for my day-to-day photo-work.. They think I'm some kind of freak I think.. And who knows.. according to the amount ot Tux-effects in this room, and opensource/coder/hacker t-shirts I have, they might very well be right ;)

By coincidence I was talking to a beauty client in Paris yesterday, suggesting that I would shoot for her on digital. She told me very few of their photographers are shooting digital, and she prefers film! I think many photographers doing editorial fashion/beauty are still using film - but most (all?) catalogues are insisting on digital....

vvizard: Like your Tux army 8) .
I have a shot around here somewhere of my 3ft. Tux, who rides shotgun in my SUV. Wears the shoulder harness and everything. 8)
Gets lots of funny looks at burger drive thrus, and stop lights. I just tell the drive-thru folks that "He works for herring."
