Hey everyone, i shot Saxon (old 80's hair metal band) on friday, Was a good gig, ven the the promoter is really rubbish, and doesnt not do his job at all by the looks of things, and so the place was really empty, which really reflected in there performance and my shots : - (, i have manaed to get ib with this club, and am now able to just go and shoot there when i want to practice etc, which is cool.
The gig was at the night Owl in Cletenham UK, i told someone in another post that when i saw a gig there the ligting was great, who ever it was, the lighting isnt that great at all im sorry to say, the band must of had there own lighting guy at the gig i was talking about, the house lighting guy what ever you call them isnt the best but never mind.
The guy on the acoustic guitar is called The Centurian, and hes peobebly one of the best guitar players iv ever seen with out being a big name, bit sure on his web site name but im trying to find out and il let you know.
And as i said the main band is an old metal band called Saxon.
Any way here are some pics from the Gig. oh and first time using my 50 1.8 and it did come in handy with rubbish lights lol.

While I find guys who sing without their shirts to be a putoff I think your shots are grand! The first and last are gnarly ... hmmmm, does that have anything to do with gNarlus? :-)

I think 1, 2, and 5, and #8 are even better than the others... with #5 and #8 being my favorites of the bunch...
#5 is a fun photo to look at...It makes you feel like you're participating with them in the song...#8 has a lot of motion...it diversifies and complements the entire set of pictures with some different lighting.
Good job there James...You did best with the available conditions...

Those are some great shots livewire. Very sharp, and even though I'm not a big fan of "the shirtless sreamer" you did a wonderful job on them. The only thing I can think of to add is the cropping seems just a tad tight on most of them....I gotta find something wrong with them!
#1 is my favorite (maybe because he has a shirt on and he is not screaming!)

I tried my 50mm last night, something must be wrong with it as every shot was OOF. I've not tested it yet today.
Check out the "Fire Shot".

Nice shots. Some are a bit blown out, and a lot are cropped quite (too) tight tho.

Ah Saxon, the old days really had some cool bands. Glad to see alot of them still rocking it. I like the pics as with John 5 and 8 do it for me.
Taygull, I hear you about the 50 being blurry, I was unhappy with mine to until I switched from AI Servo to the other one ( escapes me at the moment) AI Focus?. Seems that servo was casuing mine to continually adjust even when the subject was not moving. The lens just kept focusing in and out continually. Switched to AI Focus? and obviously it stopped. I didn't have this problem with my other lens just my thrifty 50. I also found that the 50 seems work best at 2.0-2.5.

2,3, and 6 (humor!) for the win. 2 would be even better if there was a touch more light on his face; the colours are superb.
8 would have worked w/ a bit quicker shutter.
fwiw, 'narlus' was taken from the Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 song "Narlus Spectre". great song, great (RIP) band. loved those guys (and gal).

I really like all these shots, I know how hard it is to shoot with harsh stage lights!! Oh and old people should not take off their shirts.

Some more,
Im annoyed that there is no front lighting on number one, as then i would of been really pleased with it, but im still pleased with the idea, if that makes sence?

It's not Biff btw, there are two versions of Saxon on the go, the 'original' one with Biff and this version which is actually called Oliver / Dawson Saxon - the vocalist is a guy called John "Wardi" Ward IIRC - he was in a couple of bands in the 80's, one a UK melodic band called Shy, he was also in an LA glam band who's name escapes me at the moment, think they had an album out on Atlantic.
I take it no-one is familiar with the story of Biff's false teeth - he wears dentures, but he has a normal pair for everyday use and a pair for singing ;-)
Just call me Mr Metal Trivia ;-)

Ah, I actually knew that but wasn't aware that this was the "other" Saxon. That explains the vocalists radical change of appearance :)
Cheers!

Last one is nice. Needs a bit of lightening, but expression-wise, it's the best of the bunch IMO.
