Well like I mentioned yesterday, I purchased my first L, the 17-40mm and Canon has a rebate running until Dec.31, so I got $45.00 rebate on that lens.
Today I went in to buy a 50mm 1.8 and we opened 6 new units and they were full of dust particles in between the lens. WOW, really surprised at this and it turned me off bigtime. SO, I bought me a 50mm 1.4 USM! Awesome build and not 1 dust particle in between the lens. This lens is also on the rebate list with a rebate of $20. BUT, get this. If you buy 2 or more DIFFERENT items that are on the list, you double your rebate. Now I have $90 for the L and $40 for the 50mm = $130.00 HAHA Iwin again!
Thx

Two very nice lenses, indeed. That $130 never hurts.

Thx guys! I luv it here. So friendly!
Hood and UV filter on its way. Hoya Pro1 DMC.
I was tossing between the 50mm and the 85mm 1.8 for $40 more and thought the 1.4 would be better for my use, taking pictures in restaurents and these upcomming holidays inside my home.
Also I am stuck with a New Canon 50mm 1.8 hood and adapter which I ordered from Ebay because I THOUGHT I was getting the 1.8.

Ditto on those rebates. I just ordered did a 5D + lens from B&H myself. $600 off B&H's already discounted price on the 5d. :)

I got my 20D, 24-70L and 70-200 f/2.8 about a year ago when Canon was offering their Triple Rebate program. After some initial nightmare of getting all of my rebate money back, in the end I got all of $560 -- which I promptly spent all (and more) on accessories!
In any case, be cautious with Canon's rebates, i.e., make sure to keep all of your documents and prepare to resubmit them twice or more and be on the phone with them several times like I did. I don't recall the nightmarish "battles" with them with any fondness.

10 points to Canon.
Give a customer a shoddy product, and they will be so upset they'll buy the more expensive version :)
