I am about to buy the Sigma 50-500mm lens but on a couple of reviews it states the autofocus is very slow? I am using a Canon 1D camera... Need help as to how the lens autofoucs... any other info would be appreciated. bob

hey robert

i don't know specifics but i have a 200-400 mm tascam top of the line zoom and the focus is slow on that too
i tried to use it for a sport event and had to switch to manual as the lens was too slow...i think this has to do with it being such a massive sized lens.....

might be the same for sigma....
one thing that i do know is that the canon lenses use the ultrasonic motor for silence and speed, but remember that those have a high premium....

in summary...

you want speed you gotta shelve out the dough...

(i've heard that sigma's have always had a rep of being loud and slow)
