I am going to purchase a second 550ex, I want to know if it were you which would you buy.


USA

So I already have an owner manual and I always purchase things from B&H so I do trust them. I have never purchased anything but USA but can see some savings here.

My strategy on this is to purchase the cheaper one. There is an extremely strong chance that the US model is exactly the same as the other one. The warrantee might be different. In some cases, the manual might be different. In a few strange cases, the warrantee is terribly different or the manual is.

If it is a product that I think I might need a lot of direct support on, then I will purchase it locally. If it is something that I think is fundamentally a reliable product, then I will buy it online. If the US model is much more in price, then I buy the other one. If the US model is virtually the same price, then it doesn't matter.

I bought my Canon flashes from B&H for the cheaper price.

I just bought one of the Grey market 550's about 6 days ago. I have already recieved it and everything was just as my USA version purchased several months ago...well minus the warranty card. I would buy Grey market items with no worries.

Go with the grey market. B&H gives you a year garantee.

Denny, For what looks to be a $30 difference, I'd go with the US model as opposed to the grey. I'd think of it as insurance in case anything DID go wrong with it.
