I was the photographer for a local band in the area. The lighting was terrible. I don't own an external flash yet and am hoping to get one. I PSed a few of the pics and wanted your opinion.
Happy for any imput. Thanks!

you're on the right track...iso 1600 on the first one is right...iso 200 on second is too slow...
nice shots...

But my question is..how do you control the noise level while on ISO1600?
What do you need for taking photos in low light? Do you need an external to bounce off the light? Or is not really needed..pretty clueless here..

have you checked out a lot of threads here?? your questions presume that we shoot flash and the vast majority here - at least of the regulars - don't shoot flash - on camera or external.
also, noise? you find these images too noisy?

okay, so noise is not an issue? can you post the pics with the noise that you want opinions dealing with? Presuming its still an issue you want input on.
also, i didn't see any comment to flash or that people here don't really use flash.
a lot of clubs don't allow it and most artists - at least those that I've heard talk about it - hate it.

read the sticky info on top of front page...delete the duplicate thread by using edit...
your shutter speeds are too slow...iso 400 in the third, is too slow...digital cameras handle higher iso very well...try to do without flash....read the A&Q's on top of front page...

I think you will find that most of us that shoot in small clubs shoot mostly at ISO 1600 and even 3200 at time for extremely dark clubs. Allot of noise in can be calmed by using a filter in PS like Noise Nija and others. My question to you would be why were you changing the ISO speed during the shoot? Set it at 1600 and leave it and then adjust shutter and apatrure to compensate for light. Unless you are are getting high shutters and apature. Personally that rarely happens in small clubs. Also in RAW mode you can adjust exposure a bit to help the really dark ones, save a couple of my pics that way. Most of us in here would never consider using a flash, one because of personal preference and also because the bands and the venues frown upon it as it is to distracting for the performers and the patrons. Your pictures look good you have a good eye. just get used to the camera and what settings to change and what to leave alone. One last thing that Dwight taught me, shoot lots and I mean lots.

Even in a dimly lit club, ISO 1600 should be fine. I really try to avoid 3200. I've found that if my exposure isn't absolutely perfect, the level of noise I encounter is downright offensive.
Leave the flash in the bag for when you need it to take pictures at the company party. I am of the opinion that a flash has no place at a concert...

Here here Steve, totally agree 3200 i have had little luck with but it is there as a last resort.
How's this? Just lightend a little with levels and filtered once with Noise Ninja. Probably could do more if we had a larger version. This one is kind of small to edit.

Near the top of most pages there is a blue menu bar. The first item is User CP. This is where you can tell us where you live, edit in a signature, upload an avatar, etc. There is a check box there somewhere that says IMAGE EDITING OK and this must be checked or people are not supposed to edit and repost your images. This requirement is the result of a very few people who post but completely flip out when anyone edits their images and reposts them in order to demonstrate some point. Turn it on.
It would also be nice if you put the band and venue in your title rather than useless generic things like "Newbie" or "First Time" or "Help" ... good titles will draw a lot more interest and people. Look at what others do and take a hint from that. Also, there is a FAQ that is short but worth a read.
