A cat skull, which has been lying around the office for several years.

Taken with the G5, internal macro, tungsten WB, ISA 100

My first feeling is that the skull is a little bit cramped on the sides. There is adequate room on the top and bottom. It seems like you could give the subject more room if you didn't have to crop something out. Maybe even more room just on the right so that it can be facing something or about to bite something. If you disagree tell me why please.

Otherwise, I feel like I am looking at the cover of a Smithsonian Magazine.

I like the DOF. Everything that needs to be in focus is and the less interesting parts are not.

You're right I did go too far with my crop and its only now (looking at it again) that I realise. My excuse: I've been up all night without sleep and needed something to aim the camera at. Feeble....I suppose so............

I'll re-crop it and post later

I kinda like it. Unfortunately, the back of the eye socket is blurry. For some reason, I feel compelled to see where the optic nerve goes through on it's journey to the brain. Perhaps a little more depth of field would provide better detail in the deeper recesses of the skull.

The photo is a bit static with the black back ground (though it's a great complementary tone to the bone colour.)

Yes, where the holes are for the nerve there is a slight concave and it just takes it out of DOF.

I will re-issue my statement that the eye-socket being blurry is a nice touch. The eye-socket is not a good focal point nor is it interesting, at least to me. Keep it how it is after you change the crop.

I love it, might make a nice avatar for these forums.

Depth of field is basically subjective, same as the notion of motion for sports photography. I just would prefer more depth of field, that's all... :)

The crop was changed yesterday but I just uploaded it and deleted the first file.

You want it for an avatar? Its yours if you want it!!!

Stopbath:
I used the macro on the G5 and I zoomed in which has lessend the dof - I was more concerned with the teeth being correctly focused at the time of taking it.

Regards to you all
