Hey all,
Was wondering if anyone has used the SIGMA AF 24-70 f/2.8 EX Aspherical DG DF LENS. I am thinking about purchasing it and would like feedback if possible. I've read reviews on it... mixed reviews... most are good, but I'd like to hear from those of you that have used it and if you have any photos taken with this lens available to show.
Going rate at DeltaInternational.com is $362 USD - good price?

I'm also considering this lens due to its relatively low cost and fast aperture. However, what's giving me pause is the gargantuan 82mm filter size. That's a little excessive. I mean, it's not like it's a 500mm lens or anything. I could understand if it was a 72mm thread.
In addition to the lens price, you should factor in $45 for a UV filter and $125 for a circular polarizer. Those are new prices, from B&H. You can get a better deal at your local used shop if they have any used filters that freakin' big laying around.

I don't want to complicate your lives, but: tamron 28-75/2.8.....
I don't know it directly but read some good reviews.
Good choice,

That could be a good alternative. I'd really rather have the wide end be 24mm, though. I do like the smaller 67mm filter thread, however.

I'm using this lens and so far very satisfied with it. But i've heard about the QC of sigma producing different optical quality of the same lens. Anyway, here's a review I did a while back:

I have use the sigma and it is not that hot of a lens. I found it to be soft at F2.8 and at allmost all stops at 24MM. My guess try the Tamron and see how you like it.

if you can buy in your country the french magazine "chasseur d'images" , the february issue has a very good test of some Canon and Sigma lenses in real use in D10-D300 and D1 cameras.
I can anticipate to you that the results of the 17-40L, 24-70L are excellents and also is very good the Sigma 24-70.

I went ahead and ordered it and so far I am not sorry I did. Got it yesterday and began shooting immediately. Shots are pretty sharp. Some softness around 24 and 70, but color and contrast is excellent. The only negative thing I have found so far is the noise from the autofocus. This has got to be one of, if not the loudest AF I have ever heard. I can live with it - not sure people around me can. :) The AF/M switch and focus ring pull is no big deal for me.
So far, looks like it's been a good investment. True test comes this evening when I shoot some concert photos with it.
