I've been using MPIX for about a year now for most of my photo processing and I've been extremely happy with everything about them. Last week, they sent me an e-mail inviting me to be a customer of their parent company, Miller's Professional Imaging. I've been so happy with MPIX that I was quite excited to have the opportunity to become a customer of their parent company. I wasn't sure what to expect but I figured it would be somewhat like MPIX only more content and options. Well, it does have more content and options but the one thing I didn't expect was the huge price jump. For instance, a 4x6 through MPIX is .29 cents. A 4x6 through Millers is $1.56, and that's for a non-color corrected "thrift" print. I mainly shoot weddings and events so the 4x6 is a popular size for me and when ordering 3-400 different 4x6's that price difference really adds up fast. So....I guess I'm trying to justify the price difference. I figure that I must be missing something here but I can't figure it out....why the higher prices? I don't think I've ever seen a price that high for a single 4x6 print....is there something special about them that sets them apart from the prints I get from MPIX? Their other print sizes are also more expensive but not by as much. For example, an 8x10 is $3.07 while MPIX is $1.99, a 5x7 is $1.89 while MPIX is .99 cents. Anyways, I'm a bit disappointed by this experience and unless someone can point out a good reason why I should spend so much more money on prints, I doubt that I'll be able to use them. Supposedly they are going to be contacting me and sending me a "welcome pack" so I'll voice my concerns to them at that time, but in the mean time, I would like to hear from others who have used their services.

Millers is not the place to go for small jobs like 4x6 prints. Even in quantities the pricing from Millers will not compete. Millers Lab is designed for the professional photographer with large consistent order quantities such as canvas on frames or magazine style first edition books (proofs books). We converted to Millers for doing all of our wedding “proof books”. No longer do we supply individual prints. The spiral bound leather covered magazine books really work and it’s so much easier for us. We also use Millers for our large canvas jobs and occasionally for other types of custom prints. Millers lab has good customer service for their professional clients. We have had very few problems over the years but when something does happen, their on it fast. I don’t know their policies anymore but in the “old days” they did require a minimum annual order $$ and all your state and fed tax info. Billing is direct on on purchase orders. Really good at sending us end-of-year tax data for both California and Federal tax filling requirements.
