I'll bet that 8GB microdrive really starts slowing down when it gets close to full.

Hopefully, this will drive down the price of smaller CF cards.

Does anyone know if the 10D can address more than 2GB?

Yes it can...

And the 8gb drive uses stacking technology.. YUCK!! wouldnt catch me within 1000 feet of that thing.

What is "stacking technology" and why is it bad for digital camera use?

Yeah they look nice but did ya'll catch the price. Out of my league. I will be buying 1G cards.....

Stacking is the technology they use in building the circuits on the cards...

Why would anyone need a card that large? You'd drain your supply of battery packs long before you dented the surface of that capacity.

Hard drives fail. It's a simple fact of life. My view is that 8GB is an awful lot of shots to lose when the drive fails. I'd rather carry several smaller drives... it's not as though they take up much space.

Unless I'm missing something here, I don't think the 8 GB CF card is a microdirve. It is solid state and has no moving parts.

And I doubt the stacking technology they're talking about here is the same one used for stacking PC boards.

It's true,. you have jumped to a conclusion that was in error,.

These cards ARE NOT Microdrives.. !

That's 8GB of RAM!!!!!!

On the other hand,. that 8gig card is expected to go fro $6,000.00!!!!!!

///when I think my first hard drive was 512MB... and it was considered large...

But it was!!!!

Mine was only 40 MB and I thought, "Now what am I going to do with all that free space?"

Thought my 20 meg one was......lol wouldn't even fit one 10D 16bit image on it :)

If its like stacking of old then its a compression on the drive or memory. Stacking used to be hardware or software and it would claim to double the size of a drive... without telling you it would slow the he!! out of it.

Think medium format 22MP backs, for instance.

It's not a microdrive, it's 8 GB of solid state memory - a real CF card. But I wonder who would ever want to buy it for $5,999 ?!?! That's more expensive than even an 1D Mark II !!
