I love my Rebel XT however, I took 200+ pictures using a Lexar 1gb 4x chip and lost them all!!

Everything was fine just before I removed the chip from the camera to download the pictures on my laptop. I turned off the camera and removed the chip. Some time in the few seconds between the camera and the laptop, the chip failed. The laptop says "insert media" and the camera now throws ERR CF.

Is there any way of recovering the pictures?

here are a couple utilites
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
http://www.pcinspector.de/smart_medi...uk/welcome.htm
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm

I've used the last two with good results.
You can also search the forums for image recovery and see if you come up with more. There'll also be a lot of good advise.
Might want to check this out as well:
