Here's one most of you would not have come across...
This is Dipodium punctatum also known as a purple hyacinth orchid. The interesting part is it is a leafless plant and relies completely on a symbiotic relationship with a fungi for it's existence. For most of the year it lives underground, then puts up a flower spike in summer. Quite an attractive plant when you find a good specimen - I'll admit this one isn't the greatest, probably due to the lack of rain.
