Have you been following the news over at PMA? There have been 51 new digital cameras released including quite a few from Canon.

They are listed at:

Which do you like the look of best? How do you think the Canon ones stack up against those from other manufacturers?

The Canon 1D Mark II is awesome ofcourse, but it's way out of my budget.

The Canon Powershot Pro 1 is also great, with 8 MP and a real L lens. I bought my Powershot G3 a little more than a year ago (in December 2002) - it was just released at that time and I paid a lot of money for it (more than $1000!). Now just a little more than a year later, there's the Pro 1 for about $1000... there has been immense progress in the past year! (in the meantime I sold the G3 and bought a 10D).

The Fuji S3 is also interesting. Konica Minolta have finally announced a DSLR, the Maxxum 7 Digital. They've only announced it, it's supposed to be available in the fall of 2004. Good for Konica Minolta, but in the fall of 2004 most certainly Canon and maybe Nikon will have the next generation of DSLRs, which will most likely have 8 MP. Konica Minolta is one generation behind the competition. I'm still glad I sold my Minolta stuff and switched to Canon. The AS (anti-shake) built-in into the body of the Maxxum 7 Digital sounds interesting.

Canon also announced two new lenses, the 28-300 L IS USM and the 70-300 DO IS USM. I want the 70-300 - it's very small, light and inconspicuous and it's supposed to have very good image quality (approaching L quality, according to Canon). Much better than a big, fat, heavy white lens....

yeah i like the look of the pro 1 - although I've also heard that leica's latest is pretty good, although very 'manual' in its controls and only 5MP. it won a competition at the big PMA conference.

Strangely none of the canons figures in the winners list...not sure if they entered or not.

the list is at
