Why Doesn't 580EX Flash Case have Hooks??

GodD*** paid big money for the 580 Flash and the Canon bag that comes with it has no hooks or any mounting devices so that you can attach it externally to existing camera bags. stooopid.

That's funny. :) I kinda feel your pain but my camera bag is huge so both flashes fit inside. Would be kinda nice for it to have a loop.

I have the 430EX and it doesn't have anything on the case either. I hated that at first, but now I don't even know where that case is anymore since I just stick the flash down in my enormous Canon camera bag. :)

Maybe because Canon feels that their flashes are not supposed to be roughed up (its fairly flimsy plastic body protecting fragile glass and electronics) and hence must travel INSIDE the camera bag. If they had a belt loop for the flash case then it would indicate that the product CAN travel externally under any weather conditions and is tough enough to withstand knocks etc. I know that the 70-200 carrying case has a loop and that product is supposed to be "tough and weather sealed" etc.

I never thought about it. I made a compartment in my backpack and it sits there in its case and then I can sit my L-358 meter in its case right on top in the same compartment.

I use my flash cases to store my PW units. As for the flash, it just goes inside my camera bag. Do you really want to keep your flash in an unprotected case hanging off the side of your camera bag, especially considering the "big money" you paid for it? :confused:

My 430 just goes in the bag if there's room, if not it goes into a lowepro 'sliplock' pouch 30 that get attached to the side of the bag. Don't even know where the Canon 'pouch' is...

Mine are all in the bag, either inside the main compartment or one of the end pockets. I don't particularly want to leave the relatively flimsy Canon cases hanging on a strap, belt or whatever - if I'm going to hang a pouch off a belt I want it to be sturdy.

Mine goes inside the bag. I wouldn't carry it on the outside of the bag even if there was a sliplock system on the supplied case. Heck, I wouldn't even carry a lens case on the outside of the bag - all that waggling and knocking about? No thanks!

Another 'in the bagger' here as well. I keep a 550 and 580 in my Tamrac 5259 CyberPack 9 bag, no problems.

Just go to Radio Shack and buy one of the belthook holders for cell phones. Stick the adhesive part onto the flash, hang the belthook part on an attachment point on the bag (or use the strap) Problem solved! (Just be sure to let the adhesive set 24+ hours before you hang the flash by that for the first time!) For those concerned about hanging things outside all the time, this is a viable solution to having something 'at the ready' during active shooting activities, and it all goes back in the bag when it does not need to be easily at hand.

My 550 never even came with a Bag, I say count yourself lucky.
(but then my 550 is rather second hand).

That said all the EX series pouchs Iv seen are nothing more than a pretty pouch to stop the shiny plastic getting scratched. I wouldn't consider them strong enough to hang off a belt.

I just got two 580EX's. One came in a leather case, the other came in a nylon type material case. I ordered them less then a month apart and both came from B&H. I thought that was kinda strange. Oh, neither one had belt loops, lol.
