I bought a Lowepro D-Res 25 AW for my G7. I found it hard finding a bag that fit the camera nicely, especially with the strap attached. I also wanted to be able to hold an extra battery in the case.
Here is a link to it:

Though not at all exclusively a camera bag company, I like the Mountainsmith bags. I have a few (two camera, one hiking) and they're great:

Here is my bag for the G7
It is a Tamrac 5692 Digital 2 bag. The camera fits snugly in the slot, and there is a seperate compartment for an additional batter and memory cards. I don't use the shoulder strap, because I keep the camera in another bag. I only use this case for protection while it is in the bigger bag.
A couple of photos. Sorry for the poor lighting, but I was using natural light to avoid a harsh flash appearance.

I have the PSC 5000 but the neck strap of the camera will not fit in the case.
Thus it must be hung from the neck or shoulder which is not my choice.
If you attach a small wrist strap it will fit and you can use is a a belt case.

Are you familiar with the Canon SD-DC50? Do you know if it has a belt loop in the back?
The Canon SC-DC50 does NOT have a belt loop in the back. It is an old fashioned leather case that simply protects the camera via a wrap over the top style cover. There are openings in the case to allow the straps to pass between the top and bottom covers. To use the camera, just release the snaps on the back and side and flip the top cover over the front of the camera. It can stay on the camera or you can unsnap the big snap on the bottom of the camera to remove it completely.

Ok, it seems that my option should be SC-DC50, as it has the old style "unfold-shot-fold again feature", instead of "bag in one hand, camera on the other" style.
I wonder why are they shipping that superm case only in Australia and Asia...
Adding up all the costs, its just too expensive for a case no matter how good it is.
Any other suggestion (even for third parties) in the line of old style case?
Isn't there any old camera with similar size in the history from which we can borrow the case?

Nope. look at this.
sc dc 50 (huh? I got so mad about the scdc 50 coz I can't afford one.. It sells so expensive.) It looks sexy tho. . .
But take a look at these. they are sexy too.
Amazon and Adorama sells these.

Mmm, what I'm looking for is just a compact case, which can expose the necesary parts of the camera quickly. A quick unzip-shoot-zip and back to pocket again.
Many old cameras have this scdc50 like design, and some of them may match the size...

I don't know if its available outside the UK, but the G7 is a perfect snug fit in the Samsonite Trekking Premium DF10. It has a zippered pouch at the front which just takes a spare battery and SD card in its case. The inside is soft lined and it also has a fold-away pull-over waterproof cover hidden beneath the belt strap. The bottom has a non-slip covering as does the shoulder strap. All that for 9.15 UKP! A bargain.

why do you prefer a camera bag which you have to find a place to put before taking a camera? why do you buy a camera that has less than 1sec of power on time, and then get a bag that takes you half a min to unpack, find place to put, before able to take a pic?
Well, after some browsing, it seems that the style I'm looking for is called "ever ready"

thanks.
It seems the best that I can do is to buy something like this and wait for the SCDC50 to appear or some oportunal trip to Australia.
Another concern about this kind of bags is that it may polish away part of the camera with usage. Beginning with the drawing next of the bottons...

I've had one of these for a couple of months and love it. The velcro'd belt loop makes slipping it on easy. The front pouch holds extra battery and SD cards and it's well padded and microfibered.

Here is another option, picked it up locally in Elmira NY today for about $14
the camera fits snugly into it, with room for another SD card, but too tight
to fit an extra battery in, you could rest the battery inside once the camera
is in, but that's too tedious and too great a risk of losing the battery.

That's very similar in design to the Lowepro I got from my local camera store.
(LowePro D-Res 10AW Camera Case)
Good strong velcro beltloop, detachable strap, place for a spare battery and extra memory cards inside. G7 fits well, and it feels soft enough on the inside and is padded enough on the outside to offer some protection to the camera while it's zipped in. Oh, and it comes with its own "rain condom", tucked under the backside of the pouch - so the whole case can be covered in the event of rain.

After a trip to Bulgaria and back, I do recommend this case, small and compact
Inside there is a small pouch that I carry a spare SD 1gig card
Beneath the camera is a small ScanDisk card reader
Resting at the opening of the pouch against the side of the camera, a spare
battery just fits nicely and is held back by the shape of the zippered opening.
So all fits in quite well in one padded compact case! happy camper here! :)

After reading this thread, I am very interested in the Gopix 15. Trouble is I can't seem to find one for sale in the US anywhere! (I'm in WA, and have been looking mostly online.)
I did find one on ebay, bought it, and a week later the seller said "sorry we don't actually have that item" and gave me a refund. Annoying, as they are still listing a Gopix 15 for sale on ebay (the only seller who is).
Any ideas? Thanks, this has been a valuable thread!

there is a section on Google called 'Products' that is sometimes quite good for listing places to buy stuff. I normally use it for some 'quick' searches on where to buy products and some rough pricing. I just did a search on Google products for 'Gopix 15'..

I see a company here selling them for $6.99 (this seems too cheap!) but you may want to give them a buzz to see if they have any in stock..

Just bought the Lowepro D-Pods 50, which is available at Amazon. You can see it and read the specs at http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Camera_Pouches/stretch/D-Pods_50.aspx . Nice fit, although not tight. The camera is accessible quickly, and there is a front pocket for an extra battery plus an internal SD pocket. It's supposed to be made of water-resistant material. This case is not a firm, overly protective case. It is, however, quite sleek and fits the camera well. I'm pleased.

I wound up with more than one case for G7 given its accessories or what I am planning for a days outing. General carry is SC-DC50 leather case from TechBuy. I use neck strap or just put it into another larger bag or my jacket pocket. Then I got a Tamrac belt pouch similar to a previous poster, finally winding up with a miniature Lowepro Toploader for when I am going with adapter on the camera. I have some Think Tank pouches from my DSLR that I have used when going with two adapters and the Tele lens adapter. In fact, a fully-outfitted G7 comes close to DSLR in terms of similar bulk if you get both wide and tele adapter, plus have with you things like batteries, cards, bulb-blower, shoe mount flash unit and whatnot. I once weighed both my 5D and G7 kit and the difference was around two pounds more for 5D!

That's a good price, considering it includes shipping. I wonder if it's genuine Canon, not that it should make a difference for a leather case.
I went to a Circuit City where they had everything from LowePro, Tamrac, Kata, Crumpler and other unfamiliar brands, and I tried every one. I'll do a separate write-up, but I once again chose the LowePro on the basis of fit, quality and protection level. I'm also an avid ThinkTank fan (I have the Speed Freak and the latest Urban Disguise 20), and will have to wait for them to come out with cases for smaller p&s cameras.

Delsey IOTA 15. Nylon & Neoprene, it has a small front pocket which takes 1-2 spare batteries, or extra memory. As the pocket is closed separately, the batteries don't fall out when you pick the camera. Costs CHF 20.- = $ 12.-.
