I've been trying to use the flash off camera via a Canon connecting cord. I've used the same setup on my EOS-1V and it works fine, the flash fires when the shutter is released. The D-60 doesn't seem to even reconize that a flash is hooked to it. The flash does work fine connected directly to the camera.
Thanks for any help!

Nope, won't work. The EOS full-line-product-guide tells you that won't work. What you need is another $230 or so. It's an ST-E2 that will work great!! OR, buy a 420ex and set it off with the 550ex on your d60.
ONLY the 550ex and the ST-e2 can set off flashes with the D30/60.
550ex has a flash
St-E2 no flash, just sensor.
420ex flash can be set as slave, but not master.
My D60 is on order. I was useing and st-e2 with 2 420ex's with my d30.
worked well

Hi Dave,
I´ve an other experiance of this problem. This ST-E2 is what I waiting for it sounds great of what I´ve read and heard.
But Canons Off shoe 2-cable works fine at the D30. I´ve used it alot in combination with 550Ex and Metz 54Ez3. But it have to be that one with the permanent connection between the cable and the contacts. It´s just 60 - 90 cm, a little bit short to me, thats why I´m waiting for this ST-E2.

Dave-Are you sure you are talking about the Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2? If so, could you provide a link that says this will not work? I've searched the Canon site and couldn't find anything. If they have indeed decided not to support this cord on the D60, that alone will convince me to pass on it. This cord works fine with the D30. Thanks, Charles

Hi Guys-
The D60, when used in conjunction with a 550EX flash and the Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2 works exactly as if the flash were attached to the camera.
I just hooked up said arrangement and fired off 2 pictures of my son. They were perfectly exposed. (I hand held the flash with the cord attached).
I have been using this arrangement successfully with a D30 for over a year; I just received my D60 yesterday, so I needed to be sure that it was still compatible - and it is.
I also have the ST-E2, and it is a viable alternative; plus it will control 2-550EX units and allow ratio lighting to be performed with controls located on the back of the ST-E2.
Hope this helps-

I just tried my D-60 again with the 550EX Flash and the connecting cord-still no flash. I checked the Canon Web Site for any driver updates but the D-60 isn't listed yet-I have Firmware Ver 1.0.0
I also don't see this connecting cord listed in the accessories just the ST-E2.
I emailed Canon and hope I'll hear something back from them.

Are you shure you have the correct one? There is one with the two connectors permanently attached to the cable and one type with the connectors not permanently attached to the cable.
I´ve tried booth of them and also spooked to the service people here i Sweden about it. It´s only the first one working with this cameras.

I'm copying the numbers etc rite from the EOS-1V brochure-I have two different connecting cords and I've tried them both a Cord 60 and a Cord 300 on the camera I attach a TTL Adapter Hot Shoe 3 and on the flash I attach a Off-Camera Shoe Adapter OA2 this system was bought for as EOS-1V.

I'm pretty sure that is the cord system that doesn't work - at least with the D30. It needs the Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2 - the original Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord may work, I think the only difference is the locking pin assembly.
What you have sounds like the TTL cord and fittings, which come as separate components - however, that is for TTL flash and the D30 is E-TTL only. I assume the D60 is the same.

Hi Larry,
This the cord that works on the D30/60. It's the one I use.
