have any of you tried making, say, 3 by 3 exposure images. I am thinking , if so, that the detail would be awsome. If so, got any tips, I use CS (10d), thanks, Ian.

Your message is not clear. I guess you are asking about stitching.

I've stitched images together, two high by eight wide. That works, but there are several tricks to getting it right.

(1) Remove any polarizer from the lens.
(2) For a broad landscape, meter, adjust exposure, and then shoot in manual mode. Otherwise, the camera will change exposure settings as you move around.
(3) To do really good work, you must have a very good tripod.
(4) Take written notes for each frame. It is easier to piece them together afterward.
(5) Refinement of the images independently will bring inconsistencies. Refinement of the combined image gets good results, but it demands a lot in computer resources.

You have to see Max Lyons' (http://www.tawbaware.com/maxlyons/) website! He's an expert at this and he has galleries with lots of images and interesting information. He even made a one gigapixel (yes, 1000 megapixel!) image, with I think 196 exposures......

oh yes, I had a Q adout exposure to, so if I shoot in manual will the exposure be fixed or will the AE still be working

If you shoot in manual mode, you are determining the exposure (by setting the aperture and shutter speed). So AE (Auto Exposure) obviously isn't working in that case....
