Just shoot, read the manuals and ask lots of questions. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Loving it is what you should be doing :D

Looks a bit out of focus. Try using a higher ISO, and I think you'll like your lens even more.

One thing you should do is to get a grey card to correct white balance.

He's a cutie! I'm glad you love your 1.4! I'm really loving my 1.8 too. So far I haven't had too much of a problem with AF in low light, which I'm happy about. But the 50mm does take some getting used to after working with zoom. Try getting a little closer too. My favorite shots are always of the kids very close up. That way there's less of a background to distract. Unless there's something cool in the background of course! :)

And I've found that shooting RAW and using the Canon photo software to tweak the RAW images really helps. It lets you play with white balance even after the pic has been taken without hurting the photo. I only shoot RAW now - but make sure you have a big CF card to do that! :)

ooooooo what does the grey card do?????

ooooooooooooo Kim! thanks girl! I have NOT tried RAW at all yet! LOL Im skeered! hahahaha! Im reading about it tho....and Im going to give it a try! I think learning RAW will help me a ton! I have read a lot on this board, and from what I hear, if I try to stick to really learning this 50mm length, and learning how to frame better (like you said and taking out some background) then I will become a better photographer. So Im going to give it a try!
