I took these shots on a recent trip to PI, not the best of days but still a nice moody feel that I like.

The first one is my favorite because it leads my eye down the ramp and gets me to thinking about all the fun possibilities of actually going there. I looked at it a long time, and that's a good thing. A GND filter might have been nice to have, but still an interesting shot.

thanks for the comment bls, and i agree about the gnd filter. i was talking about this with a friend yesterday, the difference between setting out on a photo trip and taking some shots whilst on a trip. ideally i would have liked to take the shots at the 'right' time of day and used a set of filters to create a fuller image. that would have been pretty boring for my partner, so i compromised. i guess some photographers wouldn't bother taking the shots, however i think these are better than just snaps, as there was thought going into the composition and exposure. i knew i could expose for the shadows and burn the highlights in using ps, thus achieving an acceptable result for the memory of being there. that's pretty much why i posted these as a display of compromise.....i and my partner enjoyed the trip and i'm happy with my shots.

Looks like a good day out.
1# Good comp and exposure of a lovely beach.
2# not keen on this one, nothing to fix the eye on and the sky too bright.
3#&4# look the same pic, but my Fav, like the colours of the foreground.
Just need to straighten the horizons.
I know what you mean about keeping your partner happy, my wife doesn't come with me anymore if I've got the cam.
What a choice to make!

i'm happy with my shots.

No wonder; they're good! The last one you posted really caught my eye too. The curving shoreline points nicely to the huge rock on the left.

I really like that first shot, the overcast worked really well for it.

I like the overcast nature of the sky, so that even though you didn't have a GND handy, it gives you lots to work with in post-processing. And as for composition, that's spot on :)

The first one looks so inviting!

I would love to go to the race circuit at Philip Island :-) Awesome track!

Those steps look like the steps in the film point break, does anyone know if thats where it was filmed?
