hey everyone im new to the board and new to the awsome world of photography somewhat.....Ialways owned a point and shoot camera........and now found a reason to invest in a new camera.....my one month old daughter.........i figure daddy can take pictures of his daughter and have fun at the same time while we goout i can photograph other things as well.....im interested in macro, also scenery and, nature ...anyways i ordered a cannon xti andit came with acouple of lenses..........75-300 and a 28-100 i think
was interested in getting a macro lens or a tele lens................i seen a mirror lens and it looked like it can somewhat do both.....any suggestions?.....or the 100 macro..... but my question is can the mirror lens or the tele lens do macro too?

No not macro but they will let you get quite close to a subject so your filling the frame with say a flower -then when you put it on the computer you can bring it closer still by cropping the shot this has the effect of making the shot look like a macro shot but will add niose the more you crop.
A True macro lens would give far better IQ.

Some points you may wish to consider. f/8 is slow, and dark. The Rebel series of Cameras use a penta-mirror viewfinder which is not as bright as the penta-prism viewfinder used on the 'D' series cameras, so it's really going to be dark in there (the viewfinder). Mirror lenses (catadioptric, or CAT for short) are far more fragile than the more common lens type. They have zilch, none, like zero, depth of field.
