Hello all!

I've been driving myself nuts trying to decide between an A70 and and A80. The first big thing is has anyone see a potential difference in general image quality between the two? Secondly, Is the 9 point autofocus much of an advantage over 70's 5 point?

The only gripe I have (which most don't care about it seems) is the support of a lesser movie res on the 80. Not exactly sure why canon would lower the movie res on a "step up" model...but, they bring it back on the soon coming A75.

aside from 100$ US price difference, my main concern is potential image quality and improved autofocus. I don't really care much about the extra 1 megapixel as I'm not going to print on anything larger than stadard letter sized paper. I've been reading so much I've just about convinced myself to forget the whole thing....I just really need to make a decision.

Thanks!

I have an A80 (never used the A70). I am very happy with it! I think that the swivel lcd screen is extremely useful and I don't think that I will buy a camera without one now that I am used to using it.

I was trying to make the same choice and went with the A80. I used a website cnet.com. they have reviews from owners on there. It seemed to me that most A80 owners were happy with the camera and the complaints that they did have were ones that I didn't care about. I believe that there were more unhappy A70 owners whcih help me to decide on the A80. There were other websites with user reviews but I can't remember what they were.

Thanks for the reply ginger. I've actually done more than enough reading in forums..etc, it's just basically come down now to seeing what others think on more of a technical level with the comparison thing such as the almost double AiAF and if there is any image quality differences. I'm pretty much at the confused point where i feel like this -->

It seems that everyone on the forums (who seem to know more than I) recommend not to use the aiaf. I have it turned off and just focus on whaatever I am taking a picture of. 1 square instead of 9. The pictures have really been great!
From what I have read I don't think that the difference in AIAF is a big deal. The swivel screen was though for me.

There is a Canon Compact Camera Forum at dpreview.com. There are a lot of very technical answers to the some of the questions you have.

You could try doing a search on that. To answer your AIAF question.

It helped me.

Thank you. Actually, that's the same site that I saw the benchmarks on different CF cards. At the time of the review, Ridata was the fastest CF card to get. Scroll to bottom.
