Hello everyone,
I'm not very familiar with some of the extension tubes out there. I'd like to have the option to do macro shots, but I'm not sure what's compatible with what. IS there any quality lost or any other drawbacks? Any and all info is greatly appraciated. Right now, all my kit consists of is and EF-S 18-55 and EF 50 1.8.

Tubes, in theory, shouldn't degrade Image quality. They are just hollow metal tubes which go between the body and lens. They decrease the minimum focusing distance of the lens. Not to sure about different brands and all that. But, someone who has used them will be able to help you out here.

Tubes and the 50 work well together, granted you have to get VERY close to your subject you can get good sharp results. The majority of my dA gallery has been shot with the 50 and tubes from 13mm up to 65mm of tubes.

Just make sure you get the ones with the full contact pins or you may struggle...

My set of Kenko tubes has been the best investment value of any of my gear.

They do not degrade image quality at all but do take a bit to get used to. I did finally get the 100 Macro this week but will still keep the tubes. I used them lots with my 50 and 70-200 and got some great shots.

I have not used others but do recommend the Kenko tubes, make sure it is the better ones that have the contact to maintain communication to the camera. They can be bought through eBay and shipped for just over $100 USD.
