Oh right, forgot about that...

it's their 28-80mm f3.5/5.6.

It's a nice lens, the colors are bland, images generally soft, the zoom is fantastic htough, thats about the only thing i do like about it.

If you do decide to go for it, Onecall has it in stock (http://ww2.onecall.com/PID_4766.htm). Only place I've seen it for a while.

What on earth do you have to lose? That thing costs less than some filters, and it takes great pictures.

Best $70 that I spent on *any* camera accessory.

Actually, it was just about the cheapest, aisde from a lens hood and maybe one of my smaller filters. And it does a hell of a lot more than some of the more expensive accessories.

So, yeah, just do it.

Go for it. The lens rocks.

Fast, sharp, small, light and ......cheap!

I just spent the better part of the week Ballet rehearsal period alternating between two lenses,..

the $1,700.00 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L,...

...and the $69.00 50mm f/1.8 MkII

My 28-70mm f/2.8 L stayed in the bag. ($1,100.00 or so new)

Does that help to answer your question?

Okay, I think I have this figured out:

Big white lenses are good.
Little black lenses are also good
Big black lenses are no good.

Hmmmmm.

I like this one, which is about 1/3 the cost of the one above and is very good too...

I have to agree with CDS - there's some good big black lenses out there.

This lens:

Took this picture at f/2.8 with available light in a flourescent-lit church.

Focus point was the bride's head. There's just a little softness, but I couldn't have done it without the fast lens. When I get home to the CRT, I'll do a little better job at post-processing, but I think this looks promising.

Now I need a better tripod. It never ends. :D

I took this picture last night with that Sigma 70-200. I didn't do any postprocessing to the photo (and I shot in Raw - all settings at normal). Love the lens. Shot a few with my new sigma 24-70 and it too took nice sharp photos. Also used the 50mm 1.8 MK II and it took great sharp shots. So there are some great big black lenses... and that little plastic lens is outstanding!

And the following was taken with the Canon 50mm 1.8 MK II (again no post processing)
