These are major enlargement crops, close to 100%.
Shot with my best macro lens EF 300 f/2.8 IS, handheld, no artificial source of light.
The shots are JPGs direct out of camera.
Hope you like.:D

Nine views and not a single "Bravo Petkal, you've done it again!"

I'll give you a bravo, if it's a bravo you want.

But first I'll call you duplicitous, a traitor, an enemy of the state.

Why? You've done your darndest to convince me to stay out of the poor house and not get the 300 f2.8 IS. My dream lens.

And here you are, using it to the nth degree doing some of the best macro I've ever seen.

Taking into consideration I just sold my 100mm macro because I sucked with it, due in large part to it's lack of IS and my shaky hands, I need the 300 f2.8 IS more than ever, you rat. I hope a tree shark nibbles your big toe.

me:lol:

And on top of that, I see you're getting a tilt-shift lens. That and the 300 will complete my lens collection.

Unless I win lotto, (which I don't play) in which case I'll pick up a 400 f2.8 for good measure.

I stay with my suggestion I have made in good faith to my dear friend, which is you: the EF 300 f/4.0 IS does 80% of what the f/2.8 does, at 1/4 of the total cost. Plus, the MFD difference is significant too and works out to a significant advantage of the f/4 version.
Lastly, we need not talk about weight since it's patently (and painfully as well)obvious which is better.

Well, I think the 24TS will make an excellent birding if not a macro lens for us.
The 300 f/2.8 I plan to use more for landscape shots in the future.

The 400 f/2.8 would also make a fine macro lens, I think.

Mark, let me illustrate the 300 f/4 vs f/2.8 MFD significance. I can get this sorta shot with the 300 f/4 IS almost blindfolded....no tripod not lights no extension tubes no PP no nothing.
Now, if I wanted to take a comparable shot with the f/2.8 version, I'd have to labour on it like a Hector.

Nice shots. Sparrows have become a rare sight in many parts of the UK, one suggestion is that people are converting front gardens into car parking due to the excessive cost of street parking or lack of spaces.

Thank you Racketman.
A rare sight ? I'll tell you why....because the vermin have migrated en masse to North America, that's why.

So true. Sorry, have not thought of that. :(
