My wife is performing in a 8 Piano concert and wanted some pictures for the poster advertising the concert. THought this may be an idea. Shot at 1/8 second with a ND filter

You could try the same shutter speed (or even slower), but have your wife leave her fingers pressing down on the keys, this would make it appear played as opposed to waiving hands over the top of it.
I'd also play with keeping her hands clear of the Yamaha logo, or shooting against a section of piano with out the logo (or just clone it out).
Maybe a little second-curtain sync... Might provide that little more impact on the hands.

take a keyboard in different view. an idea - take a shot of hands flying over keys in counterlight. one hand pressing keys and another one lifted gracefully for strike.

That first one looks almost skeletal with the hands... interesting! Looks like an X-ray.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I got the idea from another picture I found on the internet. I want to keep the logo in there becuase the local Yamaha dealer is sponsoring the concert but that was a good suggestion to make sure the hands are clear of the logo. Also, the 2nd curtain sync idea...will that work without flash? I guess I can try it. And I agree it does look a little odd when the hands are moving but the keys are still. With the keys presses down it shoulenhance the feel of motion.
