Ive been looking into getting a printer for around $200 and I was looking at the Canon printers, cause well I have a G2, and was just wondering if the cp200 or 300 were any good? ... these will just be prints for myself and family ... or are there any another printers I should check out, like Sony? I also just want to stick with the 4x7 or whatever is "the norm" ... Thanks

I havent had a chance to search the forums but Ill look around tomarrow sometime, Im sure theres already some posting of this sort here somewhere....

I bought this last summer and really like the quality of prints.

It is great for handing out 4X6 prints out; I used it a Christmas party and gave out prints on the spot. Big hit.

The 200 and 300 produce the same quality of print, but the 300 has a battery pack, avoiding the need to plug in.

yeah I thought that battery thing was a pretty cool addition, not to mention you dont even need your PC to print the pictures ... which makes me wonder if you can print from your PC?

Thanks for the reply

Absolutely! Comes with drivers for printing from PC, along with most
Canon cameras and "Pictbridge" capable cameras.

I have not fully tested the battery charge, but have done a full package of paper/ribbon (36) at one go.

Bruce,

What do your figure your cost per print is?

Thanks!

Without amortizing the original capital purchase, the consumables are about .70 cents (Canadian) per print.

That would be roughly half a US $ per.

Cheers,

Bruce

I've been thinking about getting one of these printers. I shoot RAW, is it possible to print a RAW image directly from the camera, or would you need to produce a jpeg on a computer first?

Good question; I will shoot some RAW this weekend, try it with printer, and let you know.

Bad news, you cannot print RAW images directly from the camera, only JPEG.

At least that is the case with my 10D. I will try the same experiment with the G2 later.

You must download the image through FUV or other, convert and then print to CP 300 from the computer.

I just checked my 300D manual and it say's the same: You cannot print RAW files directly. I always shoot in RAW mode. Kinda defeats the purpose of a portable printer.

Bummer. :(

Hi Bruce, Thanks for checking this - even if it is bad news
