Grump, yeah, I fess up, they weren't attempting flight, simply not bothering to.

Alas, children often attempt flight - it takes a few goes before they realise that the can't...

Meet Rob, the SAS dog. The illustrious Special Air Service attempted to make him fly behind enemy lines during the last war. Unfortunately, the dog suffered from colly-wobbles and didn't make it past the first flight. So our glorious leaders made up propaganda about him anyway.

Snir, these entries are rejected, There is either no flight intent (#1) or the birds are actually airborne (flying).
The ckickadee is excellent though.

We must maintain a certain quality standard here, otherwise the entire POTN will start posting their failed in-flight photos here.

This was shot Saturday under a very heavy sky, it was already almost dark. High park seemed empty. The exposure could use some work, there is a weird blue tint. I do need to work on my duck shots, but ponds will not cut it anymore. If you want me to shoot ducks, we will have to get together and shoot on the lake. That goes for birding as well.

Rejected. No evidence of any flight capability/potential offered. Moreover, not only you've got the image in the wrong thread, it's probably in the wrong forum too.

This was scanned from film, taken about 10 years ago. I took it shortly after a visit to the San Diego aerospace museum. My kid's rocket never got off the ground.

That Nike missile is in the Marin Headlands North of San Francisco. Nike Missile Site SF88L (http://www.atomictourist.com/nike.htm) is open to the public once a month on the first Sunday. It is a completely restored site (well, not the warheads). You go down a stairway and climb up on the missile elevator platform. They open the overhead battery doors and you and the Nike ride the missile platform up into the sun where the Nike is erected into firing position as seen in the picture.

Great fun, and I -am- glad they were never fired in anger.
