Here are a few shots of Charlie Robison @ Billy Bob's a couple of weekends ago. Charlie is one of the top "Texas Artist" who has also done well nationally.
He has had some pretty big hits, along with some very successful videos on CMT. His first album was a combo with Jack Ingram and Pat Green.
On a side note he is married to one of the Dixie Chicks.
#1 Backstage all of the bands will sign the wall, someone with the staff draws the logo. It was really neat to see all the bands and the signatures.

I really like 5,7 and 8 - I have started to try to get 2 people interacting on stage in shots now, it seems a little harder to do and gives me a better feeling I made an image worth keeping ! - nice work - well done.

Thanks,
4 is kind of a trademark shot I like to get at each show.
I appreciate the feedback and glad you like the shots. I will go through the rest of those wall shots and maybe create another thread.

The wall shot is a very interesting novelty...I'd incorporate it into the venue program, as a feature to your imagery...
Besides being a real great contrast shot in #2., the back ground is fantastic...It really covers that all demanding, stage shot...nothing beats great art work to further compliment an artist's efforts...
The guitar and the drummer in #3 is a great, sharp pic, with a wonderful background...
The #4. shot has your signature photo...are you always going to keep them in B&W or is this decided in post processing?...
I liked this photo #5., the first time I saw it and it simply reinforces my opinion of a dynamite-rainbow of colors...
I think this one #6., is special...the guitar is in it's entirety and the performer is offset perfectly with the top, lone light, highlighting the blueish background...
This is my favorite #7., with the offset, a smile, and the Lone Star of Texas banner, all in an almost three dimensional presentation...
Band interaction is at a premium in #8., with great light casting captured, this pic sums up the show nicely...

Thanks John,
You seem to know what I'm thinking when I pull these shots and posted them.
I agree with #7 I think it is my favorite of the group.
With #4 I'm thinking they will always be in black and white. I am wanting the viewer to add as much to the image as the image itself. What I'm wanting the viewer to do is to try and get "in the moment" with the artist....I think color takes that away. For me what this is saying with the instrument in focus is that it is "about the music" not the performer.

I'm just interpreting what I see after the fact taygull...Although we have similar professional backgrounds and probably look with the same critical eye...
You're the composer, and it's your creative selection for the image capture...
Regarding #4...your signature capture... leave some wiggle room for future ideas...or we'll expect the same thing from you every time... and not every one has the same opinion of what the same thing is...but you know that...(i'm just thinking out loud)...will have to wait till your next shooting for that comparative...we'll address this specific than...

I can't always get that shot.....for instance I'm shooting Jack Ingram New Years Eve. I only get the first three songs so I'm not sure I want to spend 1/2 of one song getting that shot.
For me it is "my shot" so it is kinda one of those things where I don't really care if someone likes it or not......that is not really meant the way it sounds...for me that specific shot is "what I see" as a musician..not necessarily what I think the client will like. Does that make sense?

This is how I see it, at this time...maybe with more experience I'll feel differently:
You know your routine best...I wouldn't be comfortable, unless I was able to shoot repeatedly, from all angles...till that's done...there would be no stopping the camera shutter...Other then switching cameras, or in my case a lens...there is no time for anything less...you'll possibly, still have to switch out a Flash Card while on the time clock of the three songs...
If your last stage performance shots are with a camera and lens suitable for the "My Shot" acquisition...than it would be a judgment call...wheather to make the commitment or not...Once committed to the shoot...there is nothing left to do but execute it property and be certain there are enough keepers to choose from...
Now that's a generic scenario...I'd try it and develop alternative routines as I go along, for a bit of variety...
Edit:
Only you know what catches your eye at the show to make the choice of the "My Shot"...However, what you told me regarding same, could be a consistent acquisition from most shows...provided it occurs at the right time and place...or that you have a lot of time to create it...

Thanks Dwight.....Rene is a good butcher...
You think Rene' will put the pen to the paper and go to town on mine too?...I don't remember him being excessive ever before? Are you expecting some heavy feedback for any particular reason?
I've braced myself for someone to hack my picture postings up, sooner than later...I can roll with it...I'd rather hear it from Rene' or from one of our regulars here, though...(That way I can get my vengeance out in retaliation promptly right back at them when they post:lol:   :D )...
I think we're pretty reasonable with our "off the bat" and "off the cuff" critiques here...Frankly, much of the time they seem to be justified...Heck, I need to hear it all...all of the time...there is no time to waste...the show must go on...and the improvements must follow right along...

I expect heavy feedback if needed.
I think I'm getting "good enough" now that I've got a pretty good idea what is a very good shot and what isn't.
I would even go out on a limb and say if there is something in my shots I post here it is probably more of a preference than a technical issue of how something could be better.

Preference is key here...I agree with you regarding the skill level attained...
Some pictures are difficult to dissect with accuracy in a constructive way...
If someone has some particular insight into a capture, that is innovative, creative, offers some new magical ideas...that's way cool too...of course this style of input is always debatable, weather it is really applicable to the addressed photo or just a generalization...
