Excellent knife.

I've seen that look on a blade before. What metal is that?

Here is the photo of my light box....
The Blade steel is made of Damascus...it's made by forging two or more types of steel together, then etching the steel to see the contrast.

That is a very nice shot and a nice knife. I would try one without the sheath, it distracts IMHO.

That is a nice shot. I really like the knife, espcially the Damascus steel. Do you make knives? I have some friends close by to me that make knives as a hobby and they stay very busy. I've got two from them and they are great. My next is one with the Damascus steel.

Do you make knives?
Yes, but mostly I buy and sell custom knives these days...;) I also take photographs for other knifemakers....this type of photography has become a real passion of mine...:D

That is one sharp picture.

I use to collect pocket knives, very expensive hobby. Photography has now taken over as my expensive hobby.

Damn, I need to make myself a lightbox! :) Aside from what looks like slight blowout on the handle, I love everything about this picture. I would really like to see a macro shot of the blade. Great work!

Here is a quick shot of the blade....as for the lightbox...I paid $24 for the bulbs, $16.25 for the light fixtures, White posterboard $2.33 and had the pvc pipe, cardboard, tape lying around the shop and stole the white garbage bag from the kitchen trash....so not bad for under $50. It ain't pretty but it works!

what a beautiful setup. The grain in the corner and the bamboo really add to the image. One little nitpick is I would change the angle of the sheath ever so slightly so that it and the knife handle aren't making visual contact at the end.

Kudos on making your own lightbox! Thanks for sharing the photo of it too. I love to see the various ways other photographers are controling light. :)

Thanks for your advice and Kudos.....

If anyone is going to make one of these...because the lights are in the back of the box....on occasion I have also used mirrors, white cards, aluminum foil to reflect light to get rid of shadowing...just a tip I picked up from other photographers....;)

I love the choice of background for this picture. As was said, but since I thought it too, I really really like the grain. Perfect for this shot! I think that you did a really nice job with this one.

Nothing quite like a Damascus blade, nice.

ahhh Damascus, that stuff is hard to make! Once you are skilled enough at the art, you can actually write names and words into the blade with the 2nd steel, but forging the steel together to create this look is very difficult.
I also make knives/swords/great helm helmets. I have a picture somewhere so ill have to put it on for you.
Great photo, Great Knife :)
