Hey john dude, Nos. 5 and 6 i think are cool, great interaction on 6, and 5 shows them having fun. Looking back, 3 is great too. its a shame that the dudes feet are cut off in the last but never mind.
Colors are luch and shots are overall lovely and crisp.
I think u have done a grand job.
Cheers for sharing.

#7 - Very cool!
Thanks Valerie S,
It is great to see the children enjoying the music so much...It's the only time I ran out, away from my seat, and shot this photo from the right front of the stage...I only have one other of this bunch together...luckily they were both keepers...

livewire James, you are the "Man" of the hour...This is the kind of feed back I need to verify my choices of select photos...These are all taken with th 85mm 1.8 prime lens...Tht's why I got the close up like number one , two, and three...they all walked up directly to me on the stage and I got these closeups...they are hardly trimmed at all...
However, the last photo didn't fit in it's entirety in the view finder...and I couldn't fit his feet in, while still maintaining focus on his "eye"...

Better images then in the other thread. Pity you were in your seat, as some more 'frontal' shots would have been nice. Nice images nontheless

#3 is my favorite. a little dead space at the top, but i am guessing that is because you were in your seat. nice work
and i think you get the award for shooting the most obscure bands :lol

I really like #6.
I agree I would love to see some frontal shots.
I really like #8 as well...great composition.

Better images then in the other thread. Pity you were in your seat, as some more 'frontal' shots would have been nice. Nice images nonetheless
The 85mm lens helped with these cross stage shots...Obviously the are cropped considerably too...There was a dance floor area in the front that was used by everyone...Some of the audience encouraged me to get in there and shoot more pics from the floor...I just wasn't able to get into the mix of things...

It was the spot focus sensor set at top center vertical...I had to keep it on the Eye of the tallest entertainer in the center...Unfortunately, (we addressed this issue in another thread this week too) neither (vertical nor horizontal) of the top center sensor spots go out to the edge far enough...
Regarding my "Award":
Well, I must say, they are original New Yorker's, so they were well received here, in northeast PA...Most of the venue bookings are contemporary artists and those with great success in the 1980's and 1990's...I'm open minded...having lived in the SW and West and Central states, while originally from the North East, nothing surprises me anymore...
I'll take the honor of the the shooter of the "obscure"...there is always potential for progressive advancement...hopefully before I hit the golden years...:D   :D

Here is, more of a frontal shot, it's representative of a contest at the Christmas Party...There was a lot of audience interaction, during this portion of the show...

Thanks Richard,
Chances are that jacket might have been in their routine at Woodstock...Why, that's only +/- 40 years ago...they were a feature act at the California State Fair in Sacramento, back about 20 years ago...that's when I ran into them at our hotel down the steet...
We were all staying there, while I did some heavy promotional resort work at the State Fair...(Now I'm 3000 miles away.)

john, #1 could use a serious crop...obviously the guy w/ the glasses is the subject, so get rid of the clutter surrounding him (esp the wooden stuff and two guys to the left).
3 and 5 are my faves. i think you got the framing spot-on for 3, and i love the vague HST persona of the middle guy. 5 has the best colors; i really like the green tinge. it's marred slightly by the black guy in the back; either he needs to be a bit more to the left, so we see more of him, or out of the picture completely. as it is, he's too obscured to lend much to the photo.
and i think you get the award for shooting the most obscure bands :lol

I disagree on the extreme crop on the first one....if you lose most of those items you lose the "stage presence". I think a slight crop would be better but the dead space in front is important, along with the guys in the background.

On number one narlus...I tried the crop both ways and had it ready for posting...however, the present photo seems to have a lot more depth...In taygull's response bellow...he addresses the issue of "stage presence"... Number 3, came about, when i realized they were going to sustain that pose for a few seconds...the moment is also part of a song and stage act, calling for this scenario...
I agree, on number 5, the green caught my eye, and I wasn't certain whether to try to get rid of it or not...it seems to add depth to the photo, and surprisingly for a green color, it has a warming effect...
Reggie, dressed in the red jump suit is also a prominent industry choreographer...and leads much of the dance action on stage...however, the cross stage shot from stage side afforded little additional angling of the image...I couldn't fit him in to the picture any better...and considered trimming... there really is no way to trim him out without leaving cut off parts that would look even worse...erasing him out is the only other option...I'll wait on the erasing for now...as it is tedious and time consuming...Having me go around further to my left would have gotten him into the picture, but there were lots of people in the way...P.S.: I posted some more feedback in your most recent thread, narlus...

You hit the nail right on the head taygull, when you say "stage presence"...I didn't have the words to describe it, but that's exactly the idea behind retaining this particular scenario... There is some room on the left of the picture, but I didn't want to cut any extremities...I did, however, take a full inch of the top...
Merry Christmas, Everybody...and a Prosperous New Year to you all....

John,
Thanks - What I would do is use that image as a chance to play with the levels and do soem research on cloning. I'd remove the two guys on the bottom left as they do compete and take way, leaving the stage light and the dead space.

I followed your instructions and here is the result so far...
This is my first attempt at Post Processing using levels...No cloning attempted yet...Just a trim from the top and left side...

I am sure livewire will like the crop very much. The pp looks very good but I'd tinker with the gray slider to see if you can get the guys in lower right to go away.
Looks much sharper, the jacket is better exposed...I like the post you have done here. It would be good to post the other one below this one.
I think I like a 2:3 crop better than the 4:5 crop for this image..it works better with more dead space in front of the performer.
So you getting a handle on things yet?

I'm game for the slider...Wasn't certain which way to go with it...whether to exclude them entirely (as much as possible) or include them as much as lipossible...
The 2:3 crop, I'll try out, however the bottom of this photo is out of camera...
As for getting the handle on the PP...I'm using your check list for sequence of application to proceed with...
I'll start all over from this original, out of camera, in RAW and progress from there...This is one of approx. 1/3 of all the pics I took in RAW, the other 2/3 were in JPG...

Here is my tinkering...it may be a little dark....
I used levels, first...kept the 5:4 ratio, as the 3:2 would cut the coat off...My processing also ended up dark too...
So I took the image 1 step further, through Canon's ZoomBrowzer EX, and adjusted the saturation and contrast and brightness further...and here is my PP...Looking at it one more time...it looks a bit too golden..

First version is still the best....
Why not put the CR2 online somewhere, and post in the RAW & PP forum (or here) as a 'challenge'?

Taygull has the same idea too... Rene'...Since the images posted here are reduced considerably in quality...I'm uncertain what would be OK or not. It's supposed to be for personal use only... If I let an original fly, wouldn't it be a problem?
Chris got mine by way of private Email...If you want to give it a go at it...I'll email it to you...
What other copy of this image could I start a thread with? Would a 1st copy of the original jpg. be OK? Or a 1st copy of the original RAW be OK?

Don't know about any 'rights' issues.... Here is a thought: Put it online somewhere, and mail me the link. You can then keep control on who you send the link, but you don't have to send a huge mail each time. ;)

Rene',
I tried to determine the largest file "photobucket.com" would host for me...I don't have a Pro account...and large files aren't processing through at all...
Actually, taygull and I agreed up front, that this photo wasn't the best for a PP comparison... Since I'm going through my first paces of tutored PP, we tried it for a test run...He had a few hours available earlier in the weekend...so I hit him up on the idea of helping me go through a step by step sequence...
The RAW and Post Processing Section...will be my next step in this learning progression...
