I know a lot of people have this lens and I am wondering how you like it. I am sure the L lenses are better but if that was not an option what would you use instead? Is this lens good enough to get sharp photos with the 10D. I have heard it said that it gets good results with the film cameras but less than sharp images with the DSLR's

I love it. In fact it's my favorite walk around lens because of it's weight. It's a very sharp lens and works particularly well with the 10D and Digital Rebel. You can see from my signature that I have a good compliment of "L" lenses so take it from me, it's a great lens.

Oops sorry, I must be blurred for your lens list.

Anyhow, the 28-135 is good. But for your lens list, I may prefer the 24-85 instead.

If you don't want to pay top dollars for the L lens, the 28-135 IS is a fine choice. Image quality is awesome, and IS is just a God-send. (Imagine taking pictures at 1/8 sec at 28mm, hand-held)

As mentioned numerous times on this very forum, the 28-135 is many people's "walk around" lens. I include myself in this group; This lens spends more time on my 10D than my other lenses combined.

Stopped down a bit it's quite sharp, but it's not L or even EX for that matter. Most people with this lens will tell you that it is their "all purpose" lens.

Also, it does a decent job as a close-up lens, but it's not "macro" even though it has an extended focusing range with the macro label.

Excellent all round lens. As with others, mine lives on the body. Great for taking indoor shots when a flash is not available. Not the shaprest but a little USM makes most shots pleasing.

of course it's not L
but i also use it as an alround lens and get very nice sharp pictures from it.
so if you don't have L money this is a pretty good option.

but if you are an real 'L' coholic you will buy L lenses even if you don't have the money  :D

Also from me, I like my 28-135 IS USM a LOT.

Especially the IS is a great feature. The lens is not superfast (f/3.5-5.6), but the IS makes up for this - I've used it to make handheld photos with speeds up to 1/6 second and still get reasonably sharp photos.

It's not an L lens, but the image quality is quite good, certainly better than any cheap kit zoom lens.

I have the 28-135 and it never leaves my camera. If it only had a wider setting, it would be perfect!

The 28-135 is an OK lens and I like it because of the IS. It's good for party and picnic shots, but for any serious work I always use the 28-70/2.8L, which is in a different league of its own.

The 28-135 I use is not very sharp till f/8 or so, which is too slow for most of my work. I can shoot wide open at f/2.8 on the 28-70 at a much higher speed and eliminate the need for IS. It doesn't cut it for the kind of stuff I shoot.

28-135 IS has the highest MTF score of Canon's non "L" zooms. It even beats some of the "L" lenses. It even beats some of the primes!. My favorite thing about the lens is it's build. IMHO it is a no-brainer perfect first lens. Canon should include it with digital SLRs.
