I want to know from you guys which will be a good lens to start off with my new 10D when I pick it up this week.
I'm currently looking at a
Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens. How's this lens.
Any other lenses I should consider. More on the prosumer side type lens.

I don't think you can do any better than the 28-135 for a first lens. It was my first lens, and it takes great pictures in a wide variety of situations.
Good luck.

Yep,. I agree,. grab that 28-135mm IS.. a great zoom. Perhpas take a look at the $70.00 50mm f/1.8 as well. Sharp fast lens to help you out in low light and indoors :)

Ditto and Ditto. Get the 28-135 and consider the ultra inexpensive and super sharp 50 f1.8.

Tito,
I have the 28-135 IS, and I'm told by the salesman at my local camera shop that the 28-135 IS is the most common lens sold with the 10D. It is a fine lens, and I don't think you will be disappointed with it unless you have the $1200 it takes to get the 24-70 'L' lens.
Have Fun

Wow, I didn't expect such quick responses. That's why I love this forum. So I will definitely go with the Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens.
I called B&H today to see how many 10D's they had in stock and nice gentleman told me there was a couple of them but they go fast. I live in Brooklyn not too far from B&H so I hope they have it for me when I go there.
Geezus, I can't wait. I'm bored with my Powershot G5. But my G5 is the reason I'm going to D-SLR. Also, my G5 will be my point & shoot camera.
Once again thanks for all the replies, if anyone has anything else to add on please feel free.

Its been a long time since I posted on this forum but it struck a chord when you said that the G5 is the reason you are going dSLR. The same thing happened to me 18 months ago (except it was the G2). I bought the D60 and have never looked back.
Cheers

I'm really excited about the positive feedback I'm getting about moving to a DSLR without the proper experience. I thought I'd get slammed for doing such a move. I guess not. Thanks everyone.

In truth, you will find (actually, you've already found) that this forum is a lot like Disneyland.....it's the happiest place on earth. You will never be ostracized for what you don’t know---only for what you pretend to know. These are the friendliest people you’ll ever meet online.

Words "grain of salt" come to mind.
To echo everyone else, 28-135 and the 50 1.8. d

Yeah Tito like he said, I have never seen anyone ridiculed for a post and someone posting "what a dumb question". This is a place to learn.
Have some confidence in yourself.
