Spotted this today, grabbed two shots of it. Surprised I got anything decent due to the breeze...I thought it was a Mosquito when I spotted it, but I was sure. A bit of research earlier tonight showed that it was a Dengue Mosquito, not nice beasties.

sounds nasty, hiding under tables and biting people's ankles - I had a King Charles Spaniel like that.
Lovely flowing composition.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Mark, that's the exact website that I found that I used to ID the Mosquito. Interestingly, it says that it's only found in Northern Queensland! I'm going to do a bit more research today and see if it has actually migrated south.

Hiya Dave,
Hey great minds think alike eh, funnily enough it was that bit about them having not migrated further South than Northern Queensland that caught my eye, would be interested to hear if your research comes up with anything ?

You must be the great mind then Mark, cos I'm certainly not! I did a bit more research and found this page pretty quickly:

I've seen this bugger in our yard before, but never had the camera on me, I'm rather worried now! It's a nasty bugger, carrying Dengue fever, Ross River Fever, Malaria and all sorts of other nasties.

As all have said, really nice comp on this - wonderful curves. Looks like our zebra mosquito which is very common:

Didn't realize they could carry dengue though :(

Thanks guys! This is one shot where I'd love to have went in closer with a MPE-65.
Al - yup, it does look like your Zebra Mosquito, probably is the same. Mosquitos are nasty lil buggers, and along with Fleas and Ticks I'll kill them without remorse.
