Hi all,
So as my second lens I purchased the Sigma 100-300mm f4. I love this lens so far. Quiet focussing, beautiful bokeh, fast focussing, and it's not terribly big. I have yet to look at my photos on a computer screen, but from what I can tell they seem quite sharp, even at f4. I must agree with other reviews of this lens, though, that is could definitely use an image stabilization system. Which brings me to a question: on a 16.x crop body is it best to shoot at 1/actual focal length or 1/perceived focal length or faster? My gut says perceived, but I want to check.
Thanks,
Reed

Perceived is safer but if you can get good shots at actual...

What sort of shooting?

I'm doing all sorts of shots at the moment, but I've been focussing on wildlife (if only the weather would clear up and give some decent light...). Though I have not had a chance to really get out and shoot a lot, I am wondering about the sharpness of my copy. Granted I've done most of my shots at f4, but from what I've heard it should be pretty darn good at f4. Sadly I cannot post pics for the next few days as the computer I'm using won't let me download pics. Once the skies clear up a bit I'll try to do some testing.

Great lens ... I used to use shutter at 1.6x focal lengths give or take, but if you can go less then fine. It's just a guide. As to worrying about sharpness ... why? Wait 'til you see the shots properly and do accound for conditions if the light wasn't so good. It really only gives its best on a mono/tripod.
