Distortion

Hi again.
In most pics that I've taken which include horizontal and verticle components such as architectural trim work and the like, are distorted. An example would be the cam is square to a wall or focal plane and square with the subject but the resulting image is usually narrowed at the bottom. I haven't tried different f stops yet or different zoom settings to try to isolate the problem. The camera is a g2. Is this a normal thing?

Yes that is what happens when shooting with wide angle lenses and is called "barrel distortion". The only way to adjust this is to shoot zoomed in or correct it after-the-fact in Photoshop. (http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Image_Techniques/Barrel_Distortion_Correction_01.htm)
