didn't know anything about these guys, but they brought some high energy and long hair via their opening slot for New Model Army last month. pretty decent mix of prog rock and just plain out in-the-red howling. that they are from CA isn't too surprising; they trod the same path a bit as Comets on Fire, though not nearly as deftly. still, a decent show.

#1 (singer/guitarist, doing some knob twiddling)

2,4,5 & 6 are particularly nice; I probably am drawn to thecomposition and the DoF framoing on 5. I'm using Firefox on a Mac with an EXIF reader plugin, but I'm not getting anything from your work. I'd love to peek ;)

valerie, i use zenfolio as a hosting site, and since i upload files ~1000 pixels on the longest size, i need to a resized photo for posting here. zenfolio strips the EXIF from these resized files, though they are working towards keeping it. you can find the EXIF data directly from the files on my site (check my sig file). thanks for the comments!

Great shots!!! I'd like to see the headstock in #4. That'd be my only "complaint"

I like #5 the best... Kool shots with lots of hair...

While number one is real big hair, It also is sharp, and makes for a very interesting composition...

#2. is a real sharp action pic with the cymbal and drum stick in motion...It makes you feel, like you're right there...

#3. is very original, and reminds me of my old beer drinking buddy...

#4. a great Black and White photo...the guitarist looks real mellow, while picking away...

#5. is my favorite of the set...it's definitely an action shot...and gets you right up close, like you would never see it when standing back somewhere in the audience...I just love the front drums, with the main focus on the player...:D

#6. Great close up, sharp, detailed and well exposed...

#7. This action shot sends a message to the audience to keep their eyes open or miss it...without a photo, the general audience would not have a clue of what the action on stage looks like...

1-6 are good! Well, really good! If I had that shot and time and wall space I would hang them! Glad to see John here. Anyone know what happened to Eric Kronz....?

Drummer shots are tough.

You did a right nice job on #5!

Glad to see John here.I've been here the whole time, I've just been busy with photography opportunities, modding another forum, and we are getting ready for a second baby.

Narlus,

Your particular style is is very similar to what I end up with, when shooting from the best seat in the house...

Since I have to stay put in that front row seat, I get great close ups of individual band members...I'd need a super wide angle lens for a capture of several band members...I tried the 28mm 1.8 lens and it wasn't the greatest...

From your other post in my thread with the Sha Na Na Band...it was an exception, cause I was stuck shooting from a seat by the side of the stage...Therefore, I got wide stage shots of several performers, but from the side...focus and depth of field was a constant issue...

hey everyone, thanks a ton for the comments, much appreciated.

i posted a photo on the Casket Salesmen myspace page, w/ a link to the rest, and got a hugely positive response. the main guy phil said they're the best photos he's ever seen of his band, and is willing to set up another show in boston just so i can do another shoot (they are in california). nice!

merry christmas, all!
