Hi!
just got an X-drive II and installed an 6 GB HDD. As I formated it under windows I saw the check-box for compression?
what do you think about? is there any loss of image quality? don't think so! any other reason why not compress the HDD?
buy the way! is there a car adapter out there for the x-drive II? cant find anything on the vosonic website!
thanks folks!
best regards

I think that compression on a hard disk drive is only something that your Operating System can do with files that it chooses. What Operating System are you using (there are many varieties of Windows)?
The skeletal Operating System inside the X drive does not care or do anything about compression, and the files from your CF cards are going to be straight from the camera (and relatively incompressible).
So, why are we having this discussion?
If you leave your X drive attached to the computer, then the Operating System might try to do something fancy with compression, but we seldom leave it attached.

I would imagine that compression would slow the drive down a lot and you wouldnt really save much space.
according to this site in the UK there is a car adapter available:

well thats a point! I'm using Win XP Professional, but I think you're absolutelly right. Windows will compress if you store data from the PC to the X-drive. If you copy the CF card, than it wouldnt be compressed!
hmmm... ok, forget about this topic ;-)
