Another $2000 lens from Canon... IS plus a long, fast L, plus all the corrections needed for macro lenses...

Sounds great for insect shooting when you can't set up a tripod.

I'm not sure about f/2.8 for a long macro, though, I mean your DOF will be nearly uselessly small.

Yeah, shooting at f/2.8 generally is too shallow for macro work (most, anyway). However, an f/2.8 lens does take advantage of the 30D & 5D's improved AF accuracy with f/2.8 & faster lenses.

This sounds like a great lens as long as they still keep the 135L f2.0 (which is high on my shopping list).

well i dont think theres any fear of that. why would a macro lens replace a portrait lens :)
