Hi,
my kid broke our Kodak DX3900 :P I had to thank him...
Seriously though, I'd like to replace it with a Canon, but there are 2 "must have's":
3:2 aspect ratio for the shots
and
Compact Flash card.

So far I can't find a small Canon cam that has both (thought the S400 did, but it's 4:3). Am I missing something?
thanks for any help.

No you're not missing anything. 4:3 is the normal aspect ratio for a digicam, so if you need a 3:2 ratio the only option is a digital SLR.

well, I know there are other digicams with a 3:2 ratio. My Kodak had it so do the sonys and others (Minolta?).
Anyway, I wanted to stick with canon if I could.
While I'm here, how do you guys handle the 4:3 ratio? don't you find yourself having to crop all the shots to get 4X6 and 5X7 prints? Doesn't that present a problem?
thanks!

Most labs do 4:3 digital sizes now.

For example Bonusprint do 4x5.2, 5x6.6, 6x8, 8x10.6 etc

I straighten & crop 90% of my shots anyway, even for a 4x6 print. Having a little more room on the top & bottom would give me more flexibility at that stage. If I have a change of heart and decide to convert a horizontal shot to vertical (or vice-versa), I have to throw away 44% of the image.

For anyone who post-processes their digital images, I don't think the camera's aspect ratio should be a big deal.

It dosn't bother me at all.

Infact its in some case's advantages.
If your printing at home 4:3 is the same as a piece of A4 paper.
If your getting prints done, then any even half decent print shop will have 4:3 size's avliable.

I thought the postcard setting on some of the Canon p&s's was specifically for 4x6 prints?

That's true. Moset of the new PowerShots have Postcard mode, which shows you a grey-out on the top/bottom of the LCD screen to help you frame the shot in 3:2 ratio. The shot is still recorded in 4:3, but this keeps you from having to decide on cropping for 4x6 prints.
