Just picked up the G7 to take on vacation as a good point and shoot. I found however that the battery drained so quick and I was always having to recharge. I have never had this problem with any other Canon camera (20D, or Elphs, etc). Is this rare or just a glitch with this camera?

Thanks,

Kim

I'm averaging 240-260 shots on a charge, and mostly shoot indoors with flash. CIPA rating is 220 shots. I would strongly suggest getting a good aftermarket high capacity battery like one from sterlingtek, they have a 1500ma rating twice that of the factory OEM batteries (they last 2x longer) and are less expensive.

Your shooting style will affect the battery life, some things will drain the battery quick such as reviewing of photos and if your shooting in poor lighting using the flash at max.

Thanks, I am getting no where near that many shots, I think I had maybe 40-50 and it was dead.

If thats all your getting from a fully charged battery then the battery must be defective or the camera

Or you're using it with the viewfinder on high brightness, continuous focus, and every other gizmo available. Sometimes power management is the problem.

Thanks, I am goign to send it back for a replacement. It happened again over the weekend, and I was very cautious with the viewfinder being off and such. Still only got about 40 shots in before it died.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm thinking of getting a sterilngtek for my G7 here: http://sterlingtek.com/canbeqba80.html

Is the non-canon battery safe to use and can the battery be charged with the original canon charger?
