I found these two links on digital black and white. The first one is a plug-in for color to black and white conversion. I still have to tried (I'm downloading the freedemo version right now). But it promises a lot - images that match picture taken with black and white film. The second link it's a very nice discussion of black and white photography with very practical suggestions

The second link contains some examples that look just fabulous, IMHO. It also has some actions for photoshop. I have not tried them yet.

I played a little bit with the Petteri Sulonen black and white actions (link #2 above) and I have to say WOW!!! The best color to black and white I've seen so far. If you like B&W you have to check it out.

Actions don't give you an automated conversion process, so you have to know about his method, read the discussion first.

That second link is a gem ( http://194.100.88.243/petteri/pont/How_to/n_Digital_BW/n_Digital_BW/a_Digital_Black_and_White.html ).

The B&W conversion is the best approach I've read about. After trying it, I added my own WOW.

There's a lot of other informative and witty advice on the website, which is called "Petteri's Pontifications." Highly recommended!

Thanks.
