I got my wife the Canon SD630 camera for Christmas. I gave it to her tonight. While going through the settings I found that it will allow you to change the sound that it makes when you press the shutter button. One of those sounds is a dog barking.

I just found this to be odd. Somewhere, sometime, a Canon engineer had to sit down and think to himself....hey, I've got it! Lets make the camera "bark like a dog"!

Maybe all point and shoot cameras do this....I don't know as this is my first.

I just thought it was weird!

My A75 can bark, howl, do space noises and sing like a bird... talk about weird! I keep it muted most of the time because the sounds are really loud.

hahahah seems like you could use that to your advantage sometimes... make the camera bark to get your subject to smile more then smap another one real quick. Ill have to see if mine does that too

heh, we bought my sister an IXUS 800 IS or something like that and she's not very literate with that sort of stuff.. so I made it bark just for a lark and she was stuck with that for a while, it was most amusing :p

It's weird to go from a SLR's clack-clack shutter to something that doesn't have to make any noise at all...

The S3 IS has sounds (and Im sure that the S1 & S2 do as well) I have them all set to nature sounds. Startup is birds, timer is a wolf howl. I got inspired to see if I could change them when I heard someones cell phone ring was a loons cry. There is nothing worse then a cell phone ringing. Might as well make it a more natural sound.

My daughter has an SD450 and she loves all the sounds, especially the barking.....she has recorded a voice track for the shutter so that when she presses the shutter it says "say cheese"....drives us all nuts, but she loves taking pictures. Hopefully she will grow out of it :D (the sound effects, not taking pictures)

Had it in my A80 and it's in my A620 as well.. Personally, I think the barking dog sounds more realistic than the mechanical shutter sound does! That one sounds nothing like a real shutter on any of my EOS cameras. Hmmm. . . they can be customized; must look up that max-burst-rate 1D II MP3 that's running around.

There are quite a few different themes one can upload to the camera using the ZoomBrowser EX software that comes with the Camera. I wonder if you can add your own .wav files to the themes making the possibilities unlimited? I could have some fun with that!

Yes, you can.

I had no idea that you could add your own sounds as well. I've got to get the book out and do some more reading on this. This might just be pretty cool after all!

On my Powershot S3, it has a voice recording feature.

A simple way to record your own favorite sound/voice is just to say it/play it into the mics on the camera. Then, it's just a simple menu selection to set it for your desired camera event.

you all are talking about the "My Camera" Function present on those cameras! if you install your software CD you will get a lot of templates to upload to camera ;)
